Nine people, including three children, were injured in downtown Los Angeles Sunday when a car plowed through a crowd at an outdoor shopping venue in the city’s fashion district, authorities said.

Footage posted on the Citizen App showed a minivan ram through a sea of people and crash into a structure along the sidewalk just outside the entrance of Santee Alley, a popular open-air shopping area at Maple Avenue and 12th Street.

Authorities aren’t sure what caused the van driver to crash and the incident remains under investigation.

Nine people were injured in total, with two 23-year-old women being “released against medical advice,” according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The remaining seven victims, including three boys aged 8, 11, and 17, were all taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition, according to the LAFD.

The van appeared to have jumped the curb just outside the shopping area and knocked down several K rails, according to the wild video footage. Part of the structure’s awning also fell on top of the van during the collision.

It’s unclear the extent of damage the building may have sustained because of the wreck.

Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department don’t believe that the crash was intentional and don’t suspect that drugs or alcohol were involved.
