Life changed for Re’Shae Green in a New York minute.
The Maryland-based millennial traveled to NYC as the girlfriend to longtime beau Corey Fields over Labor Day weekend.
But after an encounter with a very special taxicab, she left the Big Apple a bride-to-be.
“I was just crossing the street, when I looked over at this cab that had a ‘Will You Marry Me’ sign in its trunk,” Green, 29, a children’s book author, told The Post with a chuckle.
“Before I could even question if it was for me, Corey was smiling and digging around in his pocket for the ring.”
“Then he got down on one knee — and I was shocked.”
The tricked-out taxi, a retro-style ride embellished with silk blooms and the glowing ‘Marry Me’ display, is fast becoming the hottest proposal backdrop in New York City.
As lovebirds flock to the altar amid a recorded post-pandemic wedding boom, according to the CDC, extravagant engagements are on the rise.
Be it a flashy “say yes” in Times Square, a splashy “be mine” on the beach or a romantically remote request made from jail, romantic hopefuls are now going above and beyond the stale “hide the ring in a slice of cake” bit — hoping to create unmatchable memories.
In fact, nuptial know-it-alls at The Knot revealed that 58% of folks bending the knee feel “a lot” of pressure to plan a highly unique proposal, according to a February survey.
The experts, too, found that 25% of recent fiancées enlisted wedding professionals, such as photographers and event planners, to ensure that their “wanna get hitched?” asks go off without a hitch.
Fields, 29, who teaches coding to kids near Washington, DC, called on camerawoman Elena Komarova, as well as Qusai Smirat and Chandler Fowles of Enchanting Engagements on the Upper East Side, to curate his pop-up proposal.
After seeing Komarova’s social media snaps of the chichi cab — a 1978 vehicle that Smirat and Fowles offer up for $1,000 per popped question — Fields put plans to ask for Green’s hand into high gear.
“I surprised Re’Shae with a weekend trip to New York and Broadway tickets to ‘The Notebook,’” he recounted.
Two weeks ahead of their visit, he’d secretly arranged for Komarova and the cutesy car to be stationed a few blocks away from the theater, ready for his grand gesture.
“I was nervous,” he laughed, remembering the butterflies in his belly as they headed toward the special site. “As we [approached the cab], I said to her, ‘There’s one last thing I want to do before we leave New York.’”
Fields then dropped to one knee and presented Green, his college sweetheart of nearly a decade, with a 2-carat rock.
“I was so excited,” said Green. “People were screaming, clapping and yelling ‘Congratulations.’”
“I was living out my own little New York love story.”
Fowles, the operations manager at Enchanting Engagements, tells The Post her trendy taxi tends to drive city sweeties wild.
“New Yorkers, the tourists who come here, they want something iconic,” she said. “And this is so New York.”
Clients looking to take the first step toward walking down the aisle in old-timey style typically book with Fowles and her team about two weeks prior to their proposal date. The pro then taps a photog and driver to accommodate the mates for their happy occasion.
After each precious proposition, which typically takes place in Brooklyn’s scenic DUMBO section or a ritzy area near Central Park, couples are treated to a 45-minute engagement shoot and a bottle of champagne.
The soon-to-weds are then chauffeured to the celebration destination of their choice in the gold-ish chariot.
“You get this magical moment in a vintage cab, riding off into the sunset with your forever love,” she said. “The concept totally excites people.”
Green agrees, lauding the wow-worthy wheels as the perfect starter to her lifelong journey with Fields.
“I had the proposal of my dreams in the city where dreams come true.”
