A good Samaritan leapt into a Texas irrigation canal to save a woman stuck in her sinking car.

The driver, 49-year-old woman, was traveling southeast in the city of Electra when she lost control of her vehicle.

She skidded sideways off the road and plummeted into the South Side Canal, News Channel 6 reported.

The vehicle was submerged in the canal, which had moving water that could have jostled her vehicle with the current. Instead, a man working nearby came to her rescue.

The driver had broken her window open and was waving her arm as she shouted for help. The stranger noticed her and waded into the canal, first calming her down the best he could before helping her back to shore.

Officials said that if the stranger hadn’t stepped in to help, the driver could have died.
