Reese Witherspoon is all about joy at the moment.
Witherspoon, 48, stepped out at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Tuesday, October 29, gushing to Us Weekly about “the thing that makes [her] happy.”
“My kids and my company and really it’s having Deacon here tonight,” the actress exclusively told Us, referring to her 21-year-old son acting as her date for the evening. “That is so fun for me, and I hope [for] him too!”
Witherspoon stunned on the Museum of Modern Art’s red carpet in New York City, wearing a one-shouldered black gown. She completed her look with delicate gold rings and coordinating hoop earrings. Deacon, for his part, sported an indigo suit with a crisp, white button-down underneath.
Along with Deacon, Witherspoon shares daughter Ava, 25, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. The Morning Show star is also mom to son Tennessee, 12, whom she coparents with ex-husband Jim Toth. (Witherspoon and Toth, 54, split in March 2023 after more than a decade of marriage.)
In addition to finding happiness through her family and Hello Sunshine production company, Witherspoon receives joy via work on her Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.
“It is such a joy every day on set,” Witherspoon told Us on Tuesday. “I truly love doing it. It does not feel like work at all.”
Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston coproduce The Morning Show, which premiered in 2019 based on Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. Aniston, 55, plays a veteran TV broadcaster opposite Witherspoon’s up-and-coming anchor. After three hit seasons, a fourth was greenlit earlier this year.
By the end of season 3, Witherspoon’s character, Bradley, quit her job at the station amid questions about how she handled her sibling’s involvement in the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
“Everybody keeps asking me if Bradley’s in jail, but I don’t know if I’m in trouble,” Witherspoon joked at a press conference in December 2023, per Deadline. “I think so many people can relate to the idea that you have a family history that maybe isn’t flattering or that you’re embarrassed about, or there’s a family member in your life that’s trying to actively drag you down. So, it was just really tender to play this woman who wanted so badly to succeed and excel, being pulled back down by the heavy weight of family obligations and her isolation.”
Further details about The Morning Show season 4, including a premiere date, have not been revealed.
