Two Northern California brothers survived a mass shooting several years ago — only to vanish and likely drown in a boating accident over the weekend.

Johnny Phommathep Jr., 17, and Jake Phommathep, 14, were crabbing with their dad, Johnny Sr., and three others on board a 21-foot boat when it capsized in Bodega Bay on Saturday, FOX 5 reported.

The sole survivor — an 11-year-old boy — was rescued from shore on Sunday morning. Johnny Jr.’s body washed ashore several hours later, according to the Press Democrat.

The Coast Guard called off the search for the remaining boaters on Sunday evening, though the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office continues to comb the area.

The boating accident came nearly exactly seven years after Johnny Jr. and Jake were injured in a mass shooting near Rancho Tehama Elementary School in Corning, their grieving mom told FOX 5.

“They’ve been through so much, both of my sons Johnny and Jake. Already one tragedy. They made that one, just to come out here,” Tiffany Phommathep lamented.

She used her body to shield Johnny Jr. when the gunman, Kevin Janson Neal, drove up to their driver’s side window and opened fire in November 2017, the Press Democrat reported.

Tiffany was shot several times in the torso and the back of her shoulder, while Johnny Jr. was shot twice in the calf and Jake was struck in the foot.

A younger brother, who was just 2 at the time, was cut by glass as the car with riddled with bullets.

Neal – who eventually died by suicide – ultimately killed five people and wounded 18 in the multi-day gun rampage.

“I feel really bad. It shouldn’t be. It’s not how they should end,” Tiffany said of her young sons and their father, who was an Iraq war veteran and volunteer firefighter.

Johnny Sr., 41, took his sons out on the boat to mark the first day of recreational crab fishing season.

The three left from the Westside Marina around 3 p.m.

They were joined by a cousin, Prasong, his 11-year-old son Juladi and an unnamed male friend, according to FOX 5.

The group’s blue-and-white boat was reported missing around 10 p.m., two hours after it failed to return to the marina as planned.

Juladi survived the capsizing by holding onto a cooler that Prasong and Johnny Sr. gave him, Tiffany told FOX 5.

He eventually made it to shore and walked up to Highway 1, where he was spotted by a motorist on Sunday morning, the Press Democrat said.
