The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley and costar Kyle Richards have not mended their friendship despite their respective splits.
“I did feel very abandoned by Kyle,” Dorit, 48, exclusively told Us Weekly. “There were a lot of things that were left unsaid from the reunion, and I was struggling with that because I really care about her and I considered her like family. But I can’t say that and mean it and not feel it and not feel like it’s reciprocated. There were a lot of things over a sustained period of time that led me to feel that way.”
She continued, “I felt like in order to truly be able to mend fences, to be able to come together, to be able to rectify whatever issues we were having, I wanted to have very honest conversations where we were both able to put real things on the table and say, ‘OK, this doesn’t feel right. This is not what friends do. What has been going on the last two years? Because it’s very different to the friendship that we used to have.’”
Dorit added that she’s not sure how she and Kyle, 55, “got here,” but noted that they won’t be able to repair their broken friendship if they’re not able to “truly be very open and be very vulnerable and honest.”
While navigating their falling out, Dorit and Kyle have also experienced two public splits from their respective husbands, Paul “PK” Kemsley and Mauricio Umansky. (Dorit and PK, who exchanged vows in 2015, announced their split in May while Us confirmed in July 2023 that Kyle and Mauricio had separated after 27 years of marriage.)
Dorit said she believed that their similar relationship woes would bring the twosome closer, adding that she wanted to “give grace” to Kyle amid her split from Mauricio. However, she said things “got to a point where it was more strange.”
“It felt more personal than it was, what she was going through,” Dorit noted. “It felt like I was on the outside and not in her inner circle, whereas I was that person at one point, and I don’t know what had happened, she didn’t share with me what had happened to sort of put me on the outside.”
As for their breakups, Dorit noted that Kyle is a “little bit ahead” of her. “She’s been going through things for a while and it’s always difficult,” Dorit added. “I would have loved to have been there for her from the beginning. I was. I tried. I certainly am and would be. I do think in a real friendship you need to be able to feel like you’re getting the same that you’re putting in.”
While remaining tight-lipped about the events that transpired between her and Kyle that led to their fractured friendship, Dorit added that she was “very vocal” about the situations and teased that they will be shown on this season.
Dorit also explained that from her perspective there is “always a path forward” when it comes to her friendship with Kyle. “I think it takes two people. I think if you asked Kyle, she certainly would say that she’d like the same thing,” Dorit explained, adding that there’s “a lot of love” in their relationship. “I believe you can get through anything as friends, truly, if you are good friends and you care about one another, friends, family, you can get through anything, even the worst of things.”
She continued, “There’s work to do and two people both need to to feel it and want it, but I think you can. I think that for Kyle and I, it was a matter of finding out whether or not we both wanted to take that journey.”
