Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The best performers of the session on the were Smiths Group PLC (LON:), which rose 10.45% or 159.00 points to trade at 1,681.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:) added 6.69% or 1,290.00 points to end at 20,560.00 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:) was up 3.04% or 2.04 points to 69.06 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:), which fell 7.23% or 162.00 points to trade at 2,078.00 at the close. DCC plc (LON:) declined 3.79% or 215.00 points to end at 5,455.00 and ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:) was down 3.03% or 8.00 points to 256.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1138 to 647 and 671 ended unchanged.
Shares in Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:) rose to all time highs; rising 6.69% or 1,290.00 to 20,560.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.67% or 17.50 to $2,588.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.43% or 0.29 to hit $68.41 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.34 to trade at $72.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.23% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 106.33.
