Manchester United sent a scout to watch Viktor Gyokeres on the weekend, The Sun reports. Gyokeres scored for Sweden in the Nations League win over Slovakia on Saturday.

The striker plays for Sporting Lisbon, meaning he could be set to follow Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford.

The Sun adds: “United sent Sergio Souza — one of their top Scandinavian talent spotters — to Stockholm for the clash and he barely had time to take his seat before Gyokeres struck in the third minute.

“The former Coventry City star raced onto an Alexander Isak through ball before shooting across Slovakia keeper Martin Dubravka into the bottom corner.

“Souza revealed his presence at the game in an Instagram video post during the national anthems, although he was no doubt busily scribbling notes by the time Gyokeres had set the stadium alight with his latest strike.”

Chelsea eye Liverpool goalkeeper

Chelsea are plotting a summer move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to The Sun. The Republic of Ireland shotstopper looks set to leave Anfield at the end of the season with Giorgi Mamardashvili moving to Merseyside.

That will likely mean Kelleher moves to third in the pecking order, despite his recent stint in goal with Alisson injured, and Chelsea could therefore look to capitalise.

The Sun adds: “Kelleher has no interest in sitting on the bench in the future, and the Republic of Ireland international almost left over the summer with Nottingham Forest among the clubs who reportedly lead the way for his services.

“Sources told SunSport that one sticking point is the fact that Liverpool aren’t keen to sell such a good player to a potential title rival.

“But if Chelsea match the £35million valuation the club have placed on the player they might be left with little choice.”

Amorim set for reduced Man Utd transfer budget

Ruben Amorim is set for a “more modest” transfer budget at Manchester United compared to Erik ten Hag, the Telegraph reports. United hope the new head coach will be capable of transforming the current squad and put an end to their need for mass overhauls.

United’s bosses believe Amorim is capable of such a task, one that cuts costs and minimises changes within the squad each transfer window.

The Telegraph adds: “Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund and England midfielder Mason Mount are cited as just two examples of players United are hoping can thrive in a new environment under the charismatic Portuguese, who will take charge of his first game as the club’s new head coach away to Ipswich Town on Sunday. Amorim took official charge of his first training session with United on Monday.

“United have averaged five new signings every summer for the past 10 years under four different managers with vastly different ideas of how they want to play. All have had little success to show for the huge expenditure.

“While Amorim is expected to be operating under a more modest transfer budget next summer than his predecessor Ten Hag did during his 2½-year reign, when he spent more than £600 million, United want to implement a more sustainable structure where waste is limited, the churn of players greatly reduced and more talent realised.”

Fulham and West Ham eye Man City midfielder

Fulham and West Ham are both interested in Manchester City’s James McAtee, the Guardian reports. The attacking midfielder has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season and could move on in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old is being tracked by Fulham and West Ham, but could attract other clubs and fetch City a fee close to £20m.

The Guardian adds: “The England Under-21 international had hopes of breaking into the City squad at the start of the campaign. But opportunities have been limited, even though Pep Guardiola has been dealing with an injury crisis, and McAtee could need to leave in search of regular football.

“His only two starts have come in the Carabao Cup, while he scored after coming on as a substitute in City’s win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League last month.

“McAtee is still highly regarded at City and they have not ruled out offering him a new deal, with his current contract due to expire in the summer of 2026. Equally City have not been averse to selling homegrown talents in recent years, especially as doing so helps their position with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

“It remains to be seen if West Ham, who have used the international break to assess the managerial situation should they decide to sack Julen Lopetegui, will have a big budget in January. They spent over £100m last summer.”
