Rising TikTok star Nahsiyah Turner has died in a shooting outside a Southern California mall. She was 17.
The social media influencer, best known as Siyah to her followers, Turner died of a gunshot wound to the chest, People reports.
The content creator, who boasted more than 310,000 TikTok followers, was caught up in the shooting on Jan 18.
Police arrived at the Los Cerritos Center shopping center at around 7:30 p.m. and found an unconscious woman inside a vehicle, CBS News reported.
Upon examination, it emerged that Turner was unresponsive and not breathing. She was then taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
“Deputies from the Cerritos station responded to the parking lot of the Cerritos mall in regards to a gunshot victim call,” Lit. Steve DeJong, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau, told Los Alamitos High School’s student newspaper, The Griffin Gazette.
“When they got there, they observed a female juvenile, 17 years old, with a gunshot wound.”
DeJong added, “As far as the context and investigation, I can’t elaborate. This investigation is going to go on for a while.”
Following news of her death, Turner’s social media followers have rushed to the comments section of her final post to pay tribute.
Turner’s final video, which is a 15-second clip in which she dances, was posted just days before the shooting.
“I’m still in disbelief 💔🕊️,” one person wrote, while another added, “Rest in peace, Siyah. We will miss your videos.”
“Rest in peace my heart ❤️sending all my love and prayers to her family,” a third added.
Last week, several of Siyah’s followers gathered to pay their respects to the late teen.
Fans brought candles, flowers and signed notes as they displayed photos of the beloved content creator, a video shared on the platform shows.
Many signed their name on a tribute poster, before releasing purple, white, and silver balloons into the air, a fan-made TikTok video shows.
Turner’s cheerful videos earned her more than 300,000 followers on TikTok and more than 36,000 followers on Instagram.
