Hugh Grant celebrated his return to the Bridget Jones film franchise with his wife, Anna Eberstein, by his side.
The couple enjoyed a rare public outing at the London premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, on Wednesday, January 29. Grant, 64, channeled his inner rom-com leading man in a classic black tux and white dress shirt, while Eberstein, 41, looked chic in a long-sleeved white tweed dress with fringe details. She accessorized her look with a matching white clutch and nude heels.
The pair were all smiles while posing on the pink carpet. In addition to taking snaps with his wife, Grant also joined several of his costars for group photos, including fellow OG Bridget Jones stars Renée Zellweger, Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones, as well as new additions Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Grant famously played Daniel Cleaver, the rival love interest to Colin Firth’s Mark Darcy, in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. He did not return for the third installment, 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. His character was seemingly killed off, though a newspaper headline shown at the end of the film revealed that Daniel was alive.
Mad About the Boy, which hits Peacock next month, picks up with Bridget (Zellweger) after Mark’s death. While navigating life as a single mother with the help of Daniel, she seemingly catches feelings for her son’s science teacher, Scott (Ejiofor), while starting up a romance with the much younger Roxster (Woodall).
Off screen, Grant and Eberstein kept their romance under wraps until the birth of their son, John, in September 2012. The pair briefly split before reconnecting and welcoming their daughters, Lulu and Blue, in December 2015 and March 2018, respectively. (Grant also shares his eldest daughter, Tabitha, 13, and son Felix, 12, with Tinglan Hong.)
Grant married Eberstein in 2018 and previously revealed that his wife isn’t a big fan of rom-coms. “My wife is the man in our house, really. She likes violent films, gangster films while I’m sitting there watching Roman Holiday or The Sound of Music or something,” he shared in a November 2020 interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “So, she’s never liked those films I did in the past, which are all romance and stuff. But now she’s starting to get a taste for [my work].”
Eberstein supported her husband at the Berlin premiere of his movie Heretic in November 2024. The horror film scored him a 2025 Golden Globes nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Eberstein joined him at the January 5 awards ceremony, where he ultimately lost the award to Sebastian Stan for A Different Man.
Grant and Eberstein weren’t the only couple who attended the Bridget Jones premiere on Wednesday. Though leading lady Zellweger, 55, walked the pink carpet solo, she was later joined by her boyfriend, Ant Anstead, at the film’s afterparty at the London restaurant Brasserie Zedel. The duo, who began dating in 2021, were spotted leaving the event together in photos obtained by the Daily Mail.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy premieres on Peacock Thursday, February 13.
