Fans think Nike took a shot at Patrick Mahomes in the brand’s new Philadelphia Eagles ad following Super Bowl LIX.

The commercial, which dropped after the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game on Sunday, February 9, celebrated the new NFL champions with the help of Kermit the Frog — who Mahomes, 29, has been compared to over the years. The clip featured the muppet’s famous song, “Bein’ Green.”

“It’s not that easy bein’ green,” Kermit sang as the video shared a series of Eagles highlights over the years. “Having to spend each day / The color of the leaves.”

The video then transitions to red and yellow confetti falling from the sky when the Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII to the Chiefs in 2023.

Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images It’s not easy being green — or Patrick Mahomes. While at a press conference ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, Mahomes, 28, was asked on Monday, February 5, to give his best Kermit the Frog impression a go, and the football player shut down the request immediately. “I’m talking right now and […]

“When I think it could be nicer bein’ red or yellow or gold / Or something much more colorful like that,” the song continued as it showed several Eagles players looking forlorn following the game.

As the ballad played, Kermit had a change of heart and learned to accept his green fur. The ad then shows clips of the recent Super Bowl when the Eagles beat the Chiefs in a blowout, 40-22.

“When green is all there is to be / It could make you wonder why / But, why wonder? Why wonder? / I’m green and it’ll do fine / It’s beautiful, and I think it’s what I want to be,” he crooned as the team and fans celebrated.

Since Mahomes has been called Kermit over the years due to the similarities in their voices, many fans took to the internet to point out the potential shade.

“Having Mahomes narrate this video is diabolical,” one user quipped via X, while another wrote, “The Kermit song is savage bro!!!”

Us Weekly reached out to Nike for comment.

This isn’t the first time Mahomes has been trolled by the Muppets. Last year, Las Vegas Raiders rookie Trey Taylor was messing around with a Kermit puppet wearing a Mahomes jersey and wig to match the quarterback’s hair that was brought in by a fan. According to footage shared online in July 2024, Taylor, 24, placed the doll on his hand and said, “I’m a bitch,” while pretending to be Mahomes. Several of Taylor’s teammates can be heard laughing in the background.

After the video went viral, Mahomes brushed it off.

Brittany Mahomes made it clear she isn’t interested in hearing conspiracy theories surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs.  As Brittany’s husband, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and his teammates prepare to do battle against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, conversation has been building about the relationship between Kansas City and NFL […]

“It’s still early in the year. Stuff like that happens,” the Chiefs quarterback told reporters when asked about the Raiders’ joke. “It’ll get handled when it gets handled.”

The Raiders were not the only ones who participated in Kermit-related shenanigans. In November 2024, Buffalo Bills fans made headlines after they hung a Kermit puppet dressed up as Mahomes during a tailgate. After beating the Bills in the AFC Championship months later, Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, slammed the group for their antics earlier in the season.

“Do we remember this, Buffalo? Absolutely disgusting,” Brittany wrote via her Instagram Story in January. “So as you go home tonight, I pray we become better people.”
