A Florida community chased down and beat up a suspected child rapist who lured an 11-year-old girl into a public women’s bathroom before he was caught in the middle of the revolting attack.
Antwan Johnson allegedly committed the disturbing sexual assault at the Gwen Cherry Park in northwest Miami-Dade County just before 7:30 p.m. on July 8, where a youth football and cheer practice was being held, according to footage obtained by WPLG.
The 18-year-old asked his victim to go into the women’s bathroom to grab toilet paper for him, but followed her inside instead and launched his assault, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
Johnson allegedly dragged the girl into a bathroom stall, covered her mouth and choked her before pulling her pants down and sexually assaulting her, CBS Miami reported.
Officials said a local woman entered the bathroom and spotted Johnson, who attempted to flee the park after being found.
The unidentified woman chased Johnson out of the bathroom before she yelled out and alerted several people to the creep’s alleged assault.
The park, located in the unincorporated Gladeview area of Miami, was full of people attending a youth football and cheerleading practice.
Community members sprang into action and chased down Johnson, holding him until police showed up, the sheriff’s office said.
“She kind of screamed out for help like, ‘Hey, he just raped this little girl’ and I was the guy that locked eyes with him and he just took off running,” Mike Santiague told the outlet after he helped catch the suspected creep.
“In the midst of running across the street and chasing him, I just wanted answers,” he said.
Johnson cornered himself in a backyard and was allegedly beaten up before deputies arrived.
The good Samaritan recalled seeing the traumatized young girl attempting to explain the assault.
“I know she was crying and she was saying he did all type of heinous things to her,” Santiague told the outlet, “I couldn’t sleep last night. I’m kind of overwhelmed by the situation. I’m really just in disbelief.”
The sudden commotion caught the attention of residents who witnessed Johnson’s capture.
“I saw a crowd of people come from one way and cars come from the other way,” local resident Velda Thompkins told WPLG. “I can tell they was beating the young man.’
“I do not feel bad for this young man,” she added.
The preteen girl was transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.
Johnson was charged with sexual battery on a minor, kidnapping and false imprisonment of a child, according to criminal records viewed by The Post.
He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
Johnson is scheduled to appear in court on July 29, 2025.
He faces the death penalty if found guilty, according to WPLG.
