Lily Collins is taking on Italy in Emily in Paris season 5.
On Wednesday, August 20, Netflix released several images of Collins’ Emily in Italy as she spearheads Agence Grateau Rome. In one image, Emily travels on a boat while looking out at the water — rocking a white-and-black polka-dot two-piece and matching white sunglasses.
In another photo, Emily holds the reins of a horse beside Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) as he dons a helmet and stands next to a horse of his own. Emily and Marcello also walk side-by-side as they stare into each other’s eyes while he places an arm around her shoulders.
“Just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks,” the official synopsis reads. “Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.”
Emily in Paris season 5 is set to premiere on December 18, starring characters Marcello, Mindy (Ashley Park), Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Julien (Samuel Arnold), Luc (Bruno Gouery), Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Antoine (William Abadie), Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Genevieve (Thalia Besson), Nico (Paul Forman), Laurent G (Arnaud Binard), Princess Jane (Minnie Driver), Jake (Bryan Greenberg) and Yvette (Michèle Laroque).
The beloved Netflix series debuted in 2020 and centers around Emily as she navigates her relocation from the U.S. to France. At the end of season 4, Emily moved to Italy and appeared to pursue a relationship with Marcello.
While fans expressed concern that Emily may now be in Italy for the foreseeable future, creator Darren Star shut down the idea. In a 2024 interview with Deadline, Star noted that Emily “didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome.”
“She is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet,” Star, 64, said. “I don’t necessarily think that it means a permanent — in my mind, it’s definitely not a permanent — move to Rome. We’re not leaving Paris.”
French President Emmanuel Macron, meanwhile, shared with Variety in 2024 that he planned to “fight hard” for the show not to switch locations. Variety went on to report that Emily in Paris will remain in the OG location, with some scenes filmed in Rome.
“I feel like it just expands the universe of the show. Just at the point that Emily has gotten comfortable in Paris, she’s sort of thrown into another country where she’s going to experience some cultural differences,” Star told TVLine in 2024. “And also, I think there’s cultural differences to explore — and we do — between French and Italians. It’s a whole new world, but it doesn’t mean that we’re leaving Paris.”
Emily in Paris season 5 premieres on December 18.
