Many actors have had to perform romantic scenes with their costars, and some of their partners have voiced their discomfort with the results.

Kristen Bell got a lot of praise for her on-screen chemistry with Nobody Wants This costar Adam Brody. Her husband, Dax Shepard, had other thoughts.

“We watched that scene together, the kissing scene, which I’d argue is the very best kissing scene ever, ever put on film,” the podcaster said at the New Yorker Festival in October 2024. “And my best friend, Aaron, from childhood, he goes, ‘Does she ever kiss you like that?’ No, I didn’t even know she could kiss like that.”

Shepard isn’t the only famous spouse who has opened up about feeling uncomfortable watching their partner’s love scenes. Keep scrolling to see who else has been candid about the awkward situation over the years:

Jason Ralph and Rachel Brosnahan

Ralph made headlines in August 2025 after he liked a shady post seemingly directed toward Brosnahan’s chemistry with her Superman costar David Corenswet. (Corenswet has been married to Julia Best Warner since 2023.)

“It’s genuinely sad to see your career being tucked out to be remembered as a cuckold because your wife couldn’t handle herself with her co-actor,” the post that Ralph liked read. “Like bro.. let’s have some self love and stand up for yourself man, leave her to be with him if she wants that much at the end of the day.”

Ralph and Brosnahan did not publicly respond to the drama. Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.

Debbie and Donny Osmond

When Donny appeared in the Broadway adaptation of Beauty and the Beast as the villainous Gaston in 2006, his wife allegedly had mixed emotions when his character had to kiss Belle who was played by Sarah Uriarte Berry.

“You know the kissing scene where I force a kiss onto Belle and then she slaps me?” Donny recalled during a June 2022 appearance on the “Broadway World” podcast. “My wife hated the kissing scene but she loved it when she slapped me.”

Brenda Marshall and William Holden

Holden famously starred in the classic film Sunset Boulevard alongside Nancy Olson. In August 2025, Olson opened up about her experience working with Holden and their sizzling chemistry.

“We loved to embrace – we loved to hug each other, and we loved to kiss,” Olson recalled to People.

Olson stated that their affectionate nature “did not lead anywhere,” but there was an instance where it was too intense for Holden’s wife, Marshall.

Olson recalled filming a scene where director Billy Wilder told Holden, “do not stop kissing her” until he yelled cut.

“We start the scene, and we rehearsed it very well, but we never kissed – we got to that point and then that was that,” she reflected. “But now we’re playing a scene. The camera is rolling, and we get to the point where he asks me what happened, and I answer, ‘You did.’ And he takes me into his arms and he starts to gently kiss me, but pulls me into the most extraordinary embrace. And we kept this kiss going.”

Olson added that the scene felt like it went on for a good amount of time, and the person who called for them to stop was not the director.

“Finally, there was a female voice below us who said, ‘Cut, Dammit! Cut!’ And it was Mrs. Holden,” Olson said, referring to Marshall.

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell

In addition to Shepard’s comments about his wife’s performance on Nobody Wants This, Bell also shared that her husband gave her feedback while watching the scene at home.

“Even I can acknowledge watching it, like, ‘Whoa, that’s hot.’ My husband said the same thing. Like, watching the first episode he was like, ‘Oh, my God, I want you to kiss him so badly,’” the actress said to etalk in September 2024. “I’m not trying to be reductive, but I think there’s a math to it. You have two actors that know how to stare dopily into each other’s eyes, and you have to have the confidence to expand that and really sit the anticipatory value before the kiss, which I think is really important.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Lively confessed she had a tough time watching Reynolds’ Deadpool sex scenes.

“It’s kinda torture these days, because I’m on a plane and everywhere I look, every screen is my husband in a sex montage throughout the holidays with another woman,” Blake said during a June 2016 appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. “Because everybody wants to watch Deadpool on the plane. Everyone. But for 14 hours, having your husband having mashed potatoes eaten out of his butt hole … because that’s in the film. It’s lovely. It’s a cruel and unusual form of torture.’”

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

The Game of Thrones alum recalled going to the premiere for wife Leslie’s film Honeymoon and sitting between her and her love interest.

“I went to see a movie Rose did called Honeymoon where she spends half the movie snogging with my friend Harry Treadaway. About five minutes in I had to close my eyes because I couldn’t stand it,” Harington said in a 2019 interview with The Daily Mirror. “I was watching them play a couple on a honeymoon and it wasn’t pleasant, because she’s an incredible actor and I was watching her thinking that she really loved this guy.”

Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann

Apatow is not a fan of seeing his wife get intimate on screen, including in the films he has worked on.

“I’m always disgusted when she fools around with anyone,” the director told Alec Baldwin on his WNYC podcast, “Here’s the Thing,” in January 2013. “I remember when we shot The Cable Guy she kissed Matthew Broderick, and then when they parted I saw in the dailies there was, like, a spit string that connected them for, like, a foot.”
