HGTV alum and former pastor Brandon Hatmaker found love again after his now-ex-wife Jen Hatmaker revealed that infidelity led to their divorce.

After several years of dating, Brandon, 53, and Jen, 51, got married in 1993 and expanded their family with five kids. They became reality stars when their HGTV series My Big Family Renovation premiered in 2014.

The show only lasted two seasons before it was ultimately canceled. Off screen, Brandon and Jen remained focused on their religious congregation, Austin New Church, which they founded together in 2008. The pair surprised fans when they announced their divorce in 2020 after 26 years of marriage.

“Although the details are ours alone, this was completely unexpected, and I remain stunned as we speak. I am shocked, grief-stricken, and broken-hearted,” Jen wrote via Instagram at the time. “Hold us so dear to your hearts. We have felt your prayers these last few weeks. We have experienced your mercy. Thank you for being good to us. Know that we are deeply surrounded by love and have not been alone a single second in two months. Please help protect us and keep us safe as we try to heal and rebuild.”

Jen Hatmaker and Brandon Hatmaker surprised HGTV viewers with news of their divorce — and their split has only gotten messier amid cheating claims and their separate departures from church. Many of Us were introduced to the reality stars when their show, My Big Family Renovation, premiered in 2014. Before the short-lived series, Jen and […]

Following their divorce, Jen started dating author and activist Tyler Merritt. Brandon, meanwhile, got married to Kelly Hatmaker, who has preferred to stay out of the spotlight. According to the bio on her private Instagram, Kelly is a “proud wife, mom and Texan.”

Brandon made a rare comment about his marriage to Kelly after Jen revealed how his cheating contributed to their high profile split. In her September 2025 memoir Awake, Jen recalled catching Brandon on the phone with a girlfriend during their marriage.

After previously remaining tight-lipped about the infidelity accusations, Brandon released a statement about his first marriage.

“I’ve said this before, but I’ll reiterate it here. It’s been assumed by some that Tina, my wife, was my affair partner. She was not,” he wrote via Substack. “In no way was Tina involved or a part of my divorce in 2020. Jen verifies this in her book. To be clear, Tina and I had never met until after the divorce was filed. This was also after Jen told me that for her ‘there was no path back to reconnection.’”

Brandon clarified that “became exclusive” with Kelly after his divorce was finalized.

In 2020, HGTV star Jen Hatmaker and ex-husband Brandon Hatmaker made headlines for their split, which came alongside accusations that he had been having an affair. “Jen and I intentionally delayed finalizing the divorce for mutually agreed-upon reasons. None of those reasons had anything to do with giving the marriage time to reconcile. It was at Jen’s request to delay the divorce and I agreed,” he noted. “For those who read or believe the narrative that I remarried too quickly… The fact is that Tina and I got engaged two years later in July of 2022 and married the following December. And I’ll say it again: Tina may have saved my life. Not figuratively, but literally.”

In a follow-up comment, Brandon elaborated on meeting Kelly at a difficult point in his life.

“To be blunt, I was suicidal. When I met Tina, she made me feel human again,” he said. “She was the first one to help me realize that I didn’t want to die… I just wanted to live better. … “But what I will tell you — is that without Tina, and a small handful of friends who stood by my side — I may not be on this planet.”
