Bringing Up Bates alum Lawson Bates is sharing his public support for sister Katie Bates after Travis Clark admitted to cheating on her just hours after she revealed a recent pregnancy loss.
“@kgbates2000, I still can’t believe you dropped everything at a moment’s notice to come be with us and help document this huge life moment. It meant the world,” Lawson, 33, wrote via his Instagram on Sunday, January 18, alongside a photo of the brother-sister duo standing beside his wife, Tiffany Bates, after she gave birth.
Lawson, one of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates’ 19 children, and Tiffany welcomed sons Will and Theodore in 2024 and 2026, respectively.
“You’re one of the kindest and most genuine people I know,” he concluded. “We love you and are always here for you.”
Lawson’s message comes one day after Clark revealed via his Instagram Story that he had stepped outside of his marriage with Katie.
“This is hard to write, but I owe the truth and I owe an apology. I was unfaithful to my wife,” Clark wrote on Saturday, January 17. “I had an affair and repeatedly broke her trust. There is no excuse for what I did. This was my failure and my responsibility alone. I know that words don’t begin to express the damage I caused or the depth of the hurt I’ve brought into her life, but I am truly sorry.”
“I’m sorry for the pain, humiliation and betrayal I caused my wife through my choices,” Clark continued. “I understand that an apology doesn’t repair what I broke and forgiveness is not something I deserve or can ask for.”
Clark explained in his statement that he planned to take responsibility for his actions by “getting help,” though he did not clarify what type of help or support he would be seeking.
“[I am] doing the work to change and become a more honest and accountable man, regardless of [the] outcome,” Clark concluded. “I ask for privacy and grace for Katie as she processes this in her own time.”
Katie has not publicly addressed Clark’s statement. Us Weekly reached out to Katie for comment at the time.
Hours before Clark’s admission, Katie revealed that she suffered a pregnancy loss. “I will spend the rest of my life missing you,” she wrote via Instagram on Friday, January 17, sharing footage from her pregnancy.
Us exclusively confirmed in 2020 that Katie started courting Clark after meeting through mutual friends one year prior.
“Travis and his family are active in their local church and also travel together to sing, so our families have been able to visit at nearby concerts and church events,” Katie exclusively told Us in March 2020. “Travis and I are so thankful that the Lord, not only allowed our paths to cross, but that we have been able to begin this new phase of our journey together.”
She continued, “Travis made the evening [he asked to court me] so special, and right now, I feel like the luckiest girl on the planet.”
The pair tied the knot in 2021. Katie and Clark welcomed daughter Hailey and son Harvey in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
