Actress Alicia Silverstone is being praised for swooping in to rescue a pregnant dog that was set to be euthanized at a Southern California animal shelter.
The “Clueless” star saved the 3-year-old terrier mix, which she is now fostering, after the pooch tried to take shelter at a roadside motel in San Bernardino, People reported.
The dog, originally named Kenya and now named Noel, was taken to an animal control center and had a date scheduled for her to be put down.
“I saw this particular dog, Noel, that was at the shelter, and due to overcrowding and whatnot, you know, there’s so many dogs killed at the shelter every single day,” Silverstone, 49, told Fox 5.
“And her face was just so beautiful and lovely.”
Silverstone used her connections at the Helen Woodward Animal Center, and staff from San Diego traveled 100 miles to save the dog.
Noel eventually gave birth to 14 puppies, 12 of whom survived.
“So she had her babies, like the day they were going to kill her, she happened to have her babies, which is kinda crazy,” Silverstone told Fox 5. “They’re so cute. And my son and I were just in a puppy pile with them.”
A month later, the actress and her son are taking in four of the 12 puppies.
“If people spay and neuter, stop going to breeders, stop going to pet stores, and just rescue. You can have the cutest little faces from a rescue; you don’t need to spend the crazy money at the breeder or the pet store,” Silverstone said.
Fans and animal rights supporters are going crazy over the heart-melting moments of Silverstone and her son tenderly playing with the tiny pups.
“Alicia Silverstone is one of those rare people who truly wants to help and make a difference,” a spokesperson for Helen Woodward Animal Center told People.
