New details have been released about Britney Spears’ recent DUI arrest.
Us Weekly can confirm that California Highway Patrol Ventura Communications Center received a report of a Black BMW driving erratically at a high rate of speed on the 101 freeway around 8:48 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4. Officers responded to the call and pulled Spears, 44, over for questioning.
Spears showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests, and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs in Westlake Village, California. She was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.
Chemical test results are pending. This incident is still under investigation.
According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by Us, Spears’ Black BMW was allegedly driving “in and out of lanes,” and “speeding,” according to the operator. The operator also noted that the vehicle was seen erratically “braking, swerving and driving with no taillight.” Officers could be heard following the video before pulling it over.
Spears was reportedly taken to the hospital to test her blood alcohol content before she was booked on Thursday, March 5, at 3:02 a.m. She was released three hours later. The pop star’s court date is currently scheduled on Monday, May 4.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep told Us following the arrest. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The rep added that Spears had plans to spend time with her sons, Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, in the wake of the arrest. (Spears and Federline divorced in 2007 after three years of marriage. The singer moved on with Sam Asghari whom she was married to from 2022 to 2023.)
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” the statement continued. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”
Spears’ arrest is not the only interaction she’s had with law enforcement in recent years. The California Post reported that 14 calls have been to Spears’ house in the past two years. While it is unclear how many calls were made for Spears, three of the calls were well-being checks. However, two of them were logged as cancelled.
