A former high school educator and “Teacher of the Year” recipient was arrested after he allegedly engaged in an improper relationship with a student.

Jamie Corder was arrested by members of the Cleburne Police Department in Venus, Texas, on September 3 after authorities were alerted of his alleged conduct. He was booked into the Johnson County jail on a charge of an improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to Fox 4. Corder’s bond was later set at $1,000,000.

It appears that he is no longer in custody, as the teacher is not currently listed on the jail’s inmate roster.

Corder was previously named one of two of the Venus High School Teachers of the Year in May 2025, according to a previous post from the high school’s Facebook page. He was given the honor the same year the alleged incident occurred, per the outlet.

An indictment stated that Corder was accused of allegedly touching a female student at Venus High School inappropriately in December 2025. It is not currently clear how many times he allegedly touched her or if the victim was in any of his classes.

Following his arrest, Venus ISD confirmed that it learned of an allegation involving an employee and that the district was cooperating fully with the investigation.

The district added that Corder was immediately placed on administrative leave amid the investigation. At the time of publication, the educator is no longer employed by the district.

The school district went on to state that it notified families, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and the State Board for Educator Certification immediately after the allegations were made.

The Venus ISD did not share specific details on the timeline of when the alleged incident took place, as well as when the district was made aware of the student’s claims. It is also not known when Corder was removed from the classroom and when the district notified parents and law enforcement officials about the alleged incident.

It’s not currently clear if Corder has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Cleburne Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
