Tim Daly‘s onscreen ex Jamie Lee Curtis has an unexpected run-in with his real-life wife, Téa Leoni, in the Newlyweds series premiere.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from the upcoming NBC sitcom, Jeanie (Leoni) walks into Tony’s (Daly) home — only to meet his ex-wife, Claudia (Curtis).
“I know who you are! And good for him,” Claudia tells a surprised Jeanie. “The man baby figured out how to hire a maid.”
Despite no longer living in the house, Claudia has a reason for her visit, saying, “I am here all the time and don’t mind me, I am merely marking my territory so that James’ new — very young — plaything knows that a real woman with a real body lived here.”
Jeanie pretends to be the maid to hear more about Tony’s past marriage. Claudia, for her part, is pleased at the chance to discuss her ex-husband’s biggest flaws to a stranger. She specifically brought up what she considered to be the breaking point in their marriage.
“He started writing his book and he needed it quiet, so for two years I crept around my own home so he could focus on his philosophical masterpiece, which he is never going to finish,” she quips. “Do you know that he doesn’t even number the pages so he can reorder the chapters like an obsessive little hermit?”
Claudia gets one last laugh by tossing the pages of Tony’s book around his living room. As she leaves for work, Jeanie says, “No rest for the wicked.” Claudia replies, “That is what they say, but I sleep fine.”
Created by Curtis, 67, and Gail Lerner, Newlyweds is a later-in-life love story about “a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship,” per the synopsis. In addition to Leoni, 60, Daly, 70, and Curtis, the show stars Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O’Neill and Al Madrigal.
Before working on Newlyweds together, Leoni and Daly starred on the NBC sitcoms The Naked Truth and Wings, respectively. The duo met on the set of Madam Secretary — where they played love interests — and eventually started dating off screen, getting married in 2025.
“I mean, she looked at me, and she saw me. She just saw right into me, and it scared the hell out of me, actually, because all my defenses and walls came crashing down,” Daly recently recalled to Us. “And there I was vulnerable and caught on her tractor beam. I can’t even understand. I’m crazy about her. It’s wild.”
Newlyweds premieres on NBC Friday, October 23, after Reba McEntire’s hit series Happy’s Place.
