Police are hunting for party footage after a 16-year-old California high school football star was gunned down at a Halloween bash.
Bakersfield police found 16-year-old William Aviles suffering from severe injuries after being shot on Saturday at around 3:35 a.m. on 3500 S Half Moon Drive in Bakersfield.
Aviles was taken to a hospital but later died.
Aviles was a football player for North High School and played as a tight end and defensive lineman. Outside of football, he dreamed of having a lucrative future with nice cars.
“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former football player William Aviles. His life, memory, and impact will never be forgotten. Praying for comfort, strength, and peace for all who loved him during this difficult time,” North High School football team posted.
“To anyone who knew him, William was a force of nature. He had a bigger-than-life, magnetic personality that commanded every room he walked into. He possessed a wisdom and maturity that went far beyond his 16 years,” a GoFundMe wrote.
“The truth is, William grew up with very little, living in a proud, hard-working household with his Mom, Dad, and three little sisters who absolutely worshiped him. He didn’t complain about what he lacked—he scraped everything he had out of nothing, and he did it the hard way. The proud way,” the fundraiser continued.
The GoFundMe set up for the 16-year-old has also raised over $8,100 of its $14,000 goal.
Numerous bystanders witnessed and recorded the incident, officers told FOX 26. They also urged the public to provide them with any video footage through this link.
Anyone with further information regarding this shooting can call Detective Matthew Guerra at 661-326-3872 or the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
This comes after a 17-year-old high school quarterback named Levi Brown was fatally shot during a high school football game in Bakersfield in late-August.
A 15-year-old male suspect was arrested and it was later revealed by police that the pair had knew each other and that it “was not a random act of violence.”
