Justin Timberlake is reportedly working on a “tell-all” docuseries that will explore his Super Bowl scandal with Janet Jackson and his relationship with ex Britney Spears.

The “Selfish” singer, 45, is partnering with Apple on a four-part project directed by Fisher Stevens, who has previously made documentaries about Hollywood legend Carrie Fisher and soccer great David Beckham, per Variety.

The docuseries will reportedly feature an interview with Jackson, 60, about her and Timberlake’s infamous Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show appearance, in which one of Jackson’s breasts was exposed on live TV due to a wardrobe malfunction.

Little else about the project is known, as of publication, though the series is expected to premiere on Apple TV+ in December.

The 2004 Super Halftime Show at Houston’s Reliant Stadium sparked a national controversy — along with igniting conspiracy theories about whether the wardrobe malfunction was a public stunt. The shocking finale of the performance featured Timberlake ripping away part of Jackson’s costume, exposing her mostly uncovered right breast.

The subsequent national debate about “indecency” led directly to increased censorship on radio. The United States House of Representatives later voted to increase maximum FCC fines from $32,500 to $325,000 per violation as part of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act.

Timberlake has always maintained that the wardrobe malfunction was entirely accidental. He told Apple Music’s Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in 2018 that he’d “absolutely” made peace with Jackson in the years since the controversy.

“I don’t know that a lot of people know that,” he added. “I don’t think it’s my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people.”

The “Rhythm Nation” singer echoed Timberlake’s sentiments in her own 2022 Lifetime documentary Janet Jackson, in which she insisted the Super Bowl scandal was “blown way out of proportion.”

“It was an accident that should not have happened, but everyone is looking for someone to blame and that’s gotta stop,” she stressed. “Justin and I are very good friends and we will always be very good friends.”

Meanwhile, Spears, 44, wrote extensively about her three-year relationship with Timberlake in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, including sharing a bombshell revelation that she cheated on him with choreographer Wade Robson. The “Toxic” singer also accused Timberlake of infidelity during their relationship.

Spears later publicly apologized for “some of the things [she] wrote” in her autobiography and may have offered Timberlake an olive branch.

“If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry,” she wrote via Instagram in January 2024. ”
