Addison Rae brings serious main character energy in a smoldering new campaign for her Lucky Brand jeans collaboration, drawing comparisons to Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle ad.
The TikTok sensation — who can now add the title Creative Director to her résumé — turned up the heat in an edgy video released on Thursday, August 21, showing Rae, 24, glistening while strutting around in a sheer white crop top, low-rise pants and red pumps.
Rae went topless for one sultry promo image and pulled her jeans down in a second photo while giving a playful and flirty expression, accessorizing with pearls for the shoot filmed in the historic Million Dollar Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. A third portrait showed the singer sprawling over theater seats and striking several poses that showed off her figure-hugging denims.
The Addison Ultra Low Rise Flare comes in two looks: the dark-wash “Hidden” and lighter-toned “Bare.” Both were codesigned by Rae and inspired by the brand’s Y2K archive.
“I think the most difficult part for me was finding the shades I loved most,” Rae told Harper’s Bazaar. “I wanted the color of the washes to feel wearable, easy, and like they could go with anything!”
Soon after the release on social media, Rae’s new campaign sparked comparisons to Sweeney’s viral commercial for American Eagle.
“Lucky told American Eagle ‘hold my beer,’” one social media user quipped in the comments section. “Addison Rae has great jeans,” another replied, while a third chimed in, “Lol never seen more jean ads in my life.” A fourth person agreed, “Dang jeans companies coming in hot.”
Earlier this week, Gap dropped an “inclusive” new jeans ad featuring the girl group KATSEYE, which garnered praise after Sweeney’s campaign faced backlash amid claims it was overly sexualized and appeared to be “promoting eugenics.”
AE later set the record straight on August 1 as supporters rushed to defend Sweeney, 27.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the brand’s statement read. “Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
“Sydney thinks this whole thing has been blown out of proportion,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly on August 5. “She’s focusing her energy on work, including being back on set with her Euphoria family.”
