Alison Brie and Dave Franco are taking closeness to an entirely new level.
The married duo were spotted enjoying a romantic park picnic on Tuesday, July 15, according to social media footage circulating online. While Franco, 40, quietly scrolled on his phone, Brie, 42, was spotted giving her husband some personal attention by clipping his toenails and throwing them into the grass.
The couple both looked casual but chic for the day date, with Brie rocking a white T-shirt and her brunette hair in loose waves. Franco opted for a colorful short-sleeve button-down shirt and jeans. Both were barefoot.
The unusal expression of PDA comes just two weeks before Brie and Franco’s new body horror satire, Together, hits theaters on July 30. Written and directed by Michael Shanks, the story follows Tim (Franco) and Millie (Brie) as they flee from the city to the countryside after Millie takes a new job at an elementary school. Once there — and with tensions already flaring — an encounter with an unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love and their flesh.
“I think we thought it might [test our relationship] more than it did,” Brie told IndieWire in a January interview of their latest project. “We went into knowing that because of the intimate nature of the film and how much time we’d be spending together, even though we’ve worked together before, Dave likes to say we would come out of it either getting divorced or becoming more codependent than ever.”
Brie added that she and Franco didn’t struggle to separate their personal and professional lives because, thankfully, their marriage is “much healthier than the couple in the movie, so it wasn’t difficult to leave that relationship on set.”
Franco, for his part, called Together the “most full-on” project they’ve ever done together. “We’re very picky about what we choose to do, especially when we’re onscreen together,” he explained, “just because we don’t want to burn people out on us.”
Brie and Franco began dating in 2012 after meeting at a Mardi Gras party in New Orleans the previous year. Franco popped the question three years later in August 2015, and the pair tied the knot in March 2017.
Prior to meeting her now-husband, Brie wasn’t sure she was interested in the idea of marriage, sharing during a March episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat’ Podcast that the idea “worried her” as a childfree woman. That quickly changed when she met Franco.
“I’ve walked all over being like, ‘I’m never getting married!’” she teased. “And then I met Dave and I was like, ‘Marry me immediately!’”
She was so sold on Franco as a husband, in fact, she would often try to make some not-so-subtle hints about wanting to tie the knot. “‘Oh, my phone’s open,’” she would jokingly tell him. “‘How embarrassing that you saw that picture of that ring. That’s so weird. And that’s a pretty shape.’’”
Together hits theaters on Friday, July 30.
