All the Clues Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Were Heading Toward a Split After Nearly 20 Years of Marriage

In hindsight, there were clues that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban had been heading toward a split. 

A source confirmed to Us Weekly on Monday, September 29, that the couple have separated after nearly two decades of marriage. 

Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, first met in 2005, four years after her divorce from Tom Cruise. They tied the knot the following year in Australia, where both grew up, and welcomed daughters Sunday Rose in 2008 and Faith Margaret via surrogate two years later. (Kidman is also the mother to daughter Isabella and son Connor, whom she adopted with Cruise.)

Neither Kidman nor Urban have publicly addressed their separation. Us has reached out to their reps for comment.

They Haven’t Mentioned Each Other on Social Media For Months

While Kidman and Urban have promoted their separate work projects via Instagram, lately they’ve not shared any cute couple snapshots. Kidman last posted about the country singer when she celebrated their anniversary in June. The Babygirl star has been absent from Urban’s IG grid since May. 

In August, Kidman updated her grid with photos of her summer adventures, which included images of Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 14. And earlier this month, she uploaded footage of filming Practical Magic 2 opposite Sandra Bullock.

They Were Last Photographed Together Over the Summer

On June 20,  the exes were spotted smiling next to one another at a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 game in Nashville, Tennessee. They have not been glimpsed side-by-side since. 

Kidman and Urban had also looked cozy at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards in Frisco, Texas, on May 8, when Kidman watched her husband accept the ACM Triple Crown Award. Before Urban took the stage, they snuggled up on the red carpet — now looking back, it was apparently their final time attending an award show as a married duo. 

Kidman Was MIA From Urban’s Tour

Urban kicked off his High and Alive World Tour on May 22, and since then, he’s posted plenty of highlights via social media, but no glimpses of Kidman backstage or in the crowd. 

Urban Shared Their Marital Struggles During Kidman’s AFI Tribute 

The musician recently praised his wife for sticking by him during a tumultuous time in their relationship.

In April 2024, Urban delivered a heartfelt speech honoring Kidman at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, revealing, “We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens. Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”

As Kidman wiped away tears, he added, “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”

Kidman Revealed That She and Urban Were Working on Their Marriage

The actress opened up about Urban in an interview for the September 2021 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, telling the magazine, “We’re always working through stuff, but it’s very much love-based, so there’s an enormous amount of give and take. I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way.”
