Alexander needed several hours of open-heart surgery Sunday to repair a heart valve that was damaged from the massive blow, the mom said.

Although he came through, he will likely have to spend the rest of the holidays in the hospital, she said.

“He’s been asking every day, ‘How many days till Christmas, Mom?’” she recalled, fighting back tears.

Alexander was hit when some of the drones used to light up Lake Eola Park in red and green for a holiday special suddenly collided and crashed to the ground.

“Everyone’s natural instinct was to duck and scatter, and before we realized it, my daughter found my son on the floor unconscious,” Edgerton recalled.

“He had blood coming out of his face.”

The show, run by Sky Elements Drones in partnership with the City of Orlando, went on despite the crash which drew audible shock from the crowd. However, a planned second show two hours later was canceled.
