The Mets hit two home runs in their 10-0 laugher over the Marlins on Thursday night. Gary Cohen had three home run calls, however, thanks to another laugher.
As Jeff McNeil stepped into the batter’s box facing a 1-1 count in the bottom of the seventh inning, a fly landed on top of SNY’s camera as the feed showed an overhead broad view of Miami’s shift.
Cohen, the Mets’ play-by-play man, tried to comment on the shift, until the fly stole the show.
“There’s the shift, not gonna bunt when you’re up 10-0,” Cohen started. “There’s a bug, right on the infield, it’s moving in from the mound, it’s heading toward the plate, it’s veering off towards third base. Oooh, it’s making a beeline for the catcher!”
SNY kept the broad view until the pitch was delivered, when Ron Darling chimed in.
“Some might argue that’s the best bug we use any night,” he added.
SNY returned to the overhead shot again in between pitches. This time, the fly crawled, on the screen, into the part that showed the outfield seats.
As such, Cohen met the moment aptly.
“It’s heading for the wall! It’s outta here! The bug is outta here!”
It was an offensive explosion at Citi Field for both the Mets and their insect spectators.
