China news: Joe Biden’s ‘most powerful’ Taiwan threat sparks fury from Xi Jinping | World | News

Despite Mr Biden’s warning, China quickly fired back demanding the US stay out of its own affairs. Once again reaffirming its claim to the province, the Chinese government insisted Taiwan is “an inalienable” part of the country. The comments from China’s foreign ministry were sparked after the President claimed the US is the “most powerful military in the world”.

Indeed, the President also laughed off any impending threat from China following reports the state tested a hypersonic missile.

Asked if the US would continue to support Taiwan via military arms, Mr Biden insisted he would do so.

He told a CNN town hall event: “Yes, we have a commitment to do that.

“China, Russia and the rest of the world knows we have the most powerful military in history of the world.

“Don’t worry about whether they’re going to be more powerful.

“But you do have to worry about whether or not they’re going to engage in activities put them in a position where they may make a serious mistake.”

Mr Biden’s defiant comments sparked fury from China on Friday.

In response, foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin claimed the US has no right to interfere in the state’s regional affairs.

“No one should underestimate the resolve, the will and the ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Do not stand on the opposite side of the 1.4 billion people.

“We urge the US to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and stipulations in the three China-US joint communique, be prudent with its words and actions on the Taiwan question, and avoid sending wrong signals to the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces, lest it should seriously damage China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

These threats come after China sent a record number of jets into Taiwan’s air defence zone earlier this month.

Approximately 150 jets entered Taiwan’s defence zone earlier this month over a four-day period.

Chinese jets have long violated Taiwan’s airspace as part of its strategy to eventually to reclaim the state.

Xi views China as part of its historic right and has not ruled out reclaiming the province by force.
