A young Aussie has been left absolutely fuming after a waxer revealed why she’d have to charge her more in the future.
Sarah Button, 27, took to social media after her first brazilian waxing appointment, to say she received an unexpected message from the waxer.
To clarify, a brazilian wax is when you get your pubic hair removed, and it is a pretty intimate experience.
The message starts off nice enough.
The waxer calls Button a term of endearment, but then she drops the bombshell that she’ll be charging her more in the future.
“Just in [the] future, I’ll have to charge you a little more for the size of the area. I hope that makes sense, nothing crazy, like $5 or $10 extra,” the waxer wrote.
Button replied, “No worries,” because she was in a state of shock and immediately felt ashamed.
Now that she’s had some time to reflect, she’s furious.
The experience particularly hurt Button because she’s previously shared on social media that she has a fatty upper pubic area, best known as a FUPA.
“It made me feel initially a bit sad and confused and ashamed but that quickly turned to anger and I was just pissed off about the whole thing,” she told news.com.au.
“Mostly pissed that there wasn’t any mention of it during the consultation or the actual appointment or anything.
“Like it wasn’t until I’d gotten home that I got the message.”
The 27-year-old said she’s sure this isn’t a common experience, and she doesn’t want to put anyone off getting waxed but it was too wild not to share.
When Buttons shared the text exchange online, people were pretty outraged, and also just very shocked.
“That is crazy. Please don’t go back there,” one said.
“She cannot send you that,” someone else claimed.
“No way,” one remarked.
“That is ridiculous. The nerve of that person,” someone else said.
“Just no. Find another,” one recommended.
“Babe, as a professional in this industry, that is BS,” one fumed.
“Crikey that is rough,” someone said.
One pointed out that charging someone more is ridiculous and argued she’s certain the waxer isn’t charging smaller people less.
A few chimed in and pointed out that if you have a larger area to wax, that does mean a waxer would need to use extra product.
That obviously means it’d cost the business more, but in general, size variation between customers is usually worked into standard pricing.
