Country singer Drake White and his wife, Alex White, are mourning a tragic loss in their family.

The couple shared on Sunday, September 7, that their baby girl died shortly after she was born one week prior. In a joint Instagram post, the duo explained that their daughter arrived early at 29 weeks and died 20 minutes after her birth.

“On Sunday, August 31st our precious daughter, Della Elizabeth White, went peacefully to be with Jesus,” the pair wrote, noting that Della weighed 3 pounds and 3.5 ounces at birth. “We are so thankful for the holy moments God gave us with her. The Lord has been so near and close to us during this difficult time. He has held us up and sustained us through it all. We are heartbroken and soul tired, but we know we will get through this difficult time with the strength, peace, and joy that only our Heavenly Father can provide. May Della be held in the arms of Jesus until we see her again someday.”

They also quoted Bible verses from the book of Psalms, including the lines, “I am dying from my grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Misery has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands.”

Drake and Alex’s post included a black-and-white photograph that showed them with their baby girl in the hospital, with Alex cradling the newborn in her arms as Drake, 41, placed his arm around his wife’s back.

The couple’s friends and colleagues were quick to offer their condolences, with Jessie James Decker writing, “I am so sorry. I love you and I’m praying for you all. No one should ever go through this kind of pain. I know your sweet girl will always be in your heart and watching over you🤍.”

Lauren Alaina added, “My hearts aches for you. Sending so much love and prayer your way,” while fellow country singer RaeLynn wrote, “I am so sorry. Praying for you 3 😥 Jesus is near the broken hearted! Cover them Jesus.”

It has been a difficult road to parenthood for many celebrity parents, including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. After in vitro fertilization didn’t work on the first try, Teigen wondered if she had done something wrong. “You just look for anything to blame, especially yourself,” Teigen explained to New York Magazine’s The Cut in April […]

Terri Clark, meanwhile, assured the duo that she would keep them in her heart, writing, “I am so so very incredibly sorry to hear this. Heartbroken for you both. Sending you both love. No one should ever have to go through the loss of a child.”

Drake and Alex are already the parents of son William Hawk, 2. In May, they announced they were expecting their second baby, who was conceived in March via IVF.

“Sharing the news with our family and friends has been one of the best parts of the whole pregnancy,” Alex told People at the time. “We love seeing them as excited as we are to welcome a new baby into the world.”

Drake, for his part, noted that they planned to name their daughter after women in their family.

“We are going to use family names and name her after both of Alex’s grandmothers,” he explained. “We feel so blessed and thankful to grow our family through the miracle of IVF.”
