As he competes on Dancing With the Stars season 34, Dylan Efron has girlfriend Courtney King by his side — but it hasn’t always been the easiest to navigate.
“I would be lying if [I said] Dancing With The Stars wasn’t tough, but I think it’s tougher on Courtney than me,” Efron, 33, admitted on the Monday, October 13, episode of the “Viall Files” podcast.
Efron explained that he’s in the rehearsal studio for “five hours a day,” adding that by the end of the day his “brain’s mush, [his] body hurts.” While Efron competes on the reality show with partner Daniella Karagach, he noted that he’s “living outside of our Manhattan Beach place right now, closer to where the studio is.”
“It’s trying right now,” he said of balancing his relationship with King and competing on the show. “But she’s so supportive. She knows I love her, 100 percent. So it’s like, we know it’s all temporary, so that’s why I don’t think anything’s really changed. I know it’s hard for us right now, but we’re still where we are. We still love each other and, yeah, we’re in a great place.”
While reflecting on how his relationship has been altered since his fame, Efron shared that he “wouldn’t say much has changed.”
“The cool thing that’s changed is we started traveling together a lot more. Like, for a lot of these trips I’ll do with brands or whatever, I get to bring her with me,” he said. “I think incorporating her more into that has helped our relationship a lot.”
Efron and King first met in high school. In March, Efron confirmed their romance.
“I’m in a relationship,” he said during an episode of the “Viall Files” podcast at the time. “It’s cool because she’s actually not on social media and she works a 40-hour week job.”
Efron gushed that the private nature of the pair’s relationship “works out really well.”
“It’s not, like, I’m hiding her from the world or anything,” he said. “She understands the job, all the stuff. She doesn’t really like being on camera. She loves your guys’ podcast. I wouldn’t know about it [without her]. She’s the one who introduced me.”
Efron went on to tease that a proposal may be in the cards soon. “She knows the answer. We’re working on it,” he said. “Courtney’s so down-to-earth, she’d never [impose a deadline]. Look, we’re 33. She’s not going to put a deadline on it.
He continued, “I’m now in that stage, I am looking for that next chapter. I want kids. Definitely. I’ve got a brother and sister who are 4 and 5 now, so I’ve gotten to see the joy of them growing up. I want that for myself too.”
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
