Eintracht Frankfurt 3-3 Bayern Munich: Omar Marmoush nets deep in stoppage time as Die Roten pegged back

Omar Marmoush scored late in stoppage time to deny Bayern Munich victory in an action-packed 3-3 draw at the Deutsche Bank Park as Eintracht Frankfurt extend their unbeaten Bundesliga streak to five games.

Bayern took the lead within 15 minutes when Thomas Muller found Kim Min Jae after a corner, and he was able to find the roof of the net from close range.

The visitors were not ahead for long as the Bundesliga’s top scorer Marmoush claimed his eighth goal of the season when Ansgar Knauff’s through ball set the Egyptian on the break, and he put his side back on level terms within 23 minutes.

Despite Bayern dominating the game, it was Frankfurt who took a surprise lead after 35 minutes when Marmoush set up Hugo Ekitike on the break.

Bayern were level just minutes later as Dayot Upamecano netted his first goal of the season after a goalmouth scramble, before Michael Olise notched his sixth of the season in the second half to help Bayern retake the lead.

Vincent Kompany’s side thought they had won it and went into stoppage time looking to run down the clock. Despite that, substitute Eric-Junior Dina-Ebimbe headed the ball onto Marmoush, who scored his ninth of the season.

Bayern face Stuttgart after the international break before their UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona. Frankfurt face Bayer Leverkusen before their UEFA Europa League fixture against Latvian side FK RFS.

It only takes one look at the statistics of this game to question what went wrong for Vincent Kompany’s side but maybe the question should be about the never-say-die attitude by the home side.

Bayern wasted no time showing their dominance in the early stages but Frankfurt had a gameplan and they knew they only needed one opportunity on the ball to threaten Bayern, and that’s what they did. Time and time again.

Bayern were unable to deal with the pace and enthusiasm of Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike when they got forward and it’s no surprise when they knew how clinical they were – four shots on target (six overall) for Frankfurt equalled three goals, compared to Bayern’s 13 shots on target, 24 overall.

It could easily be Omar Marmoush after another fine display but the performance in goal of the 21-year-old Brazillian kept Frankfurt in the game and he’s proving a point for staying in the starting line-up despite Kevin Trapp’s impending return.

Will Dino Toppmoller opt for the experienced Kevin Trapp now he looks to be returning after the international break or has Kaua Santos earned his place?

GOAL! FRANKFURT 0 – 1 BAYERN MUNICH (KIM 15′) The deadlock has been broken. The resulting corner from that outstanding save causes a mess in the middle and Thomas Muller is able to spot Kim Min-jae, who is able to find the roof of the net.

GOAL! FRANKFURT 1 – 1 BAYERN MUNICH (MARMOUSH 23′) They only needed one chance and they’re back on level terms. Ansgar Knauff spots Omar Mamoush on the break and cheekily threads the ball through the legs of Aleksandar Pavlovic. Marmoush beats his man on the sprint and is able to shoot past Manuel Neuer to give Frankfurt the equaliser.

GOAL! FRANKFURT 2 – 1 BAYERN MUNICH (EKITIKE 35′) It’s Omar Marmoush on the charge and Dayot Upamecano is unable to stop him. He squares it to Hugo Ekitike and it’s 2-1 for the visitors! Two shots, two goals – efficiency.

GOAL! FRANKFURT 2 – 2 BAYERN MUNICH (UPAMECANO 38′) And Bayern are back level. Bayern win a corner and there’s a mess again in the penalty box, Santos is able to keep the ball out with the first shot on target but Dayot Upamecano is able to find the net on the rebound.

GOAL! FRANKFURT 2 – 3 BAYERN MUNICH (OLISE 53′) Bayern are back in front. Frankfurt are unable to clear and the ball is worked back into the box and to Olise, who’s able to strike past Santos and score his sixth goal of the season.

85′ HOW DID HE MISS?! Was that the moment? The offside flag stays down as Rasmus Kristensen runs down the flank and crosses it to Junior Dina Ebimbe. Ebimbe is outstretched and manages to get a touch but it’s rolls past him.
