Exclusive | Hotel and building workers union to endorse Cuomo for NYC mayor in major blow to Adams

Two major Big Apple unions are expected to endorse ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor Monday — jumping ship from incumbent Eric Adams, whom they backed four years ago, according to sources.

In a major blow to Hizzoner, the Hotel Trades Council and the city’s building workers union — Local 32 BJ of the Service Employees International — will be the latest workforces to throw support behind Cuomo in the mayoral race.

The unions did not respond to a request for comment.

It comes after scores of other powerful unions have already abandoned Adams’ longshot re-election bid — just weeks after the mayor announced he wouldn’t seek the Democratic nomination and would instead run as an independent candidate.

The unions representing the city’s life-saving ambulance service workers, Local 3621 and Local 2507, endorsed Cuomo last week.  

A slew of elected officials, too, have publicly come out in support of Cuomo, including Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres.

Cuomo is the clear front-runner for the Democratic nomination, recent polls show.

Even before Adams’ party deflection, polling showed him trailing behind Cuomo in the crowded Democratic primary.
