Jennifer Lopez is apparently going full “method” as she prepares for her upcoming movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman — and her new character’s look has fans doing a double take.
The actress, 56, shared behind-the-scenes photos from the film’s set via Instagram on Monday, September 15, showcasing a platinum blonde makeover and retro-inspired makeup that instantly sparked comparisons to Gwen Stefani.
“Thought this was Gwen Stefani at first glance!” one fan sounded off in the comments. “Omg I thought it was Gwen,” a second person chimed in. “What in the Gwen Stefani is this?” a third wrote, while a fourth echoed, “I really thought you were Gwen Stefani for a sec.”
In the first selfie captured by her glam team, J. Lo was beaming with her icy-hued hair curled and pulled back into a pinup style updo, paired with a pale pink headband tied at the top.
She wore a fluffy robe and stunned with matte skin, sharp eyeliner, voluminous lashes, a bright red lip and a matching manicure while posing for the snaps in her dressing room.
Lopez appeared to channel Stefani’s Love. Angel. Music. Baby. era, from the singer’s chart-topping debut solo studio album in 2004, featuring hits like “Hollaback Girl” and “Luxurious.”
“Stepping into the role of Aurora felt like dancing through the golden age of cinema … with all the glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of dancing,” J. Lo captioned her Instagram post. “Stepping back into time has never been so much fun.”
The musical thriller, an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway hit, is directed by Bill Condon and follows J. Lo as Ingrid Luna (a.k.a. as Aurora or the Spider Woman).
“Valentín (Luna), a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency,” according to an official synopsis for the movie. “The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna (Lopez).”
Kiss of the Spider Woman hits theaters on October 10.
