Relations between France and the US have soured after France saw their submarine deal with Australia being cancelled in favour of a UK/US pact. But as America tries to smooth over their issues with France following the AUKUS deal, French media has gone on the attack and has branded the US a “woke dictatorship” which will eventually lead to its downfall. The attack echos the views of French President Emmanuel Macron who has been attacked by progressives for his anti-woke views and told reporters woke culture is very dangerous.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will visit France on October 5 where he will attempt to fix the tensions.
France was furious after being sidelined due to the AUKUS deal which subsequently cancelled an Australian-France submarine deal.
The French administration went on the offensive and has attacked the US, UK, and Australia in a vicious war of words.
Ahead of Mr Bliken’s visit to France, the magazine Le Spectacle du Monde is running a cover story called “The Suicide of America”.
In the edition, it attacks the US for its “woke” culture which is “racialising” the country.
It added the “woke dictatorship” of the country caused the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and was contributing to America’s collapse.
GB News presenter Nigel Farage was invited on to Fox News to share his verdict and agreed with the French interpretation, noting the country has “something serious to say”.
He explained: “The French are always quite critical of the Americans in the sense that they can never forgive you for saving them and World War Two…
“Now, to begin with, the submarine deal, which has been struck by the USA, the UK with Australia, that is to give Australia 21st century submarines with nuclear reactors in the back, not the diesel ones.
“So they’re a little bit sore, however, when it comes to the point about woke and about cancel culture.
“Yes, I’m afraid this stuff was invented in the USA and it’s being exported to Western Europe.
“And the further criticism about is this the end of the American empire, let’s be frank about this.
“Biden’s calamitous withdrawal from Afghanistan has removed America from the world stage and with that much respect that people had for the country.
“And I think on that point on those last two points, the French, actually, have got something quite serious to say.”
The Spectacle Du Monde piece also looked at extremism and censorship on American campuses.
Mr Macron has previously attacked the “social science” theories emanating from America which manifests itself on university campuses.
In an interview with Elle magazine, he said ethnic minorities had been placed on “house arrest” by left-wing ideology, adding: “I see that our society is becoming progressively racialised.”
