Haley Joel Osment Arrested for Public Intoxication at the Mammoth Mountain Resort

Haley Joel Osment was arrested earlier this month at the Mammoth Mountain resort in California, Us Weekly can confirm.

Us confirmed on Wednesday, April 16, that the Sixth Sense actor was initially charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance after being taken into custody on April 8. Osment, 37, stayed in jail overnight.

News broke on Wednesday that Osment was arrested after police received a call around 2 p.m. local time about an allegedly intoxicated individual at the ski resort. Osment was reportedly booked for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, according to TMZ, which was first to report the news.

The unknown substance was sent to a lab for testing, per the outlet, which noted that ski patrol was present when authorities arrived and arrested Osment.

Us Weekly has reached out to Osment for comment.

Osment’s arrest came three months after he lost his house in the Los Angeles wildfires. The January fires engulfed several cities in the greater Los Angeles area, including the Pacific Palisades (the Palisades Fire) and Altadena (the Eaton Fire) neighborhoods, claiming at least 20 lives, burning more than 35,000 acres of land and destroying more than 13,000 structures.

Both Osment and his parents lost their homes in the Eton Fire. “After he let his dogs out into the yard, he saw a large plume of black smoke and a glow coming from the canyon,” New York Magazine journalist Abe Streep wrote of Osment’s recount of the tragedy in late January. “So he loaded up his dogs, passport, and family photos and went to his parents’ house, which was nearby.”

Abe, who is the nephew of Meryl Streep, noted that Osment planned to rebuild once it was safe.

In the interim, Haley Joel exclusively told Us Weekly that he’s spending more time with his sister, Emily Osment, at her L.A. pad. “Because I lost my house in the fires, I’ve been living with her for the past a couple months,” he shared with Us in March. “So she’s been very generous and helping me out there. She’s fantastic.”

Emily, for her part, settled her divorce from Jack Anthony that same month. The pair were married five months before the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage actress, 33, filed for divorce in March. Emily listed their date of separation as December 7, 2024.

Prior to his arrest earlier this month, Haley Joel had a run-in with the law in 2006 after crashing into a brick pillar while intoxicated. He pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana.

Haley Joel was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, six months of AA meetings and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.
