Venus, our planet of love, attachment, attraction and wealth, is setting up shop in the lion’s heart of Leo this week.
Crawling out of the crab shell of Cancer, where Venus expresses itself via sentimental leaning, aching nostalgia, and a deep need for security, the planet will ascend into the spandex-clad limelight of Leo on Monday, August 25, at 12:27 PM, where she shall remain until September 19.
Named for the goddess of love, Venus changes signs every 20 to 45 days or about once every three weeks. As an inner planet, Venus transits have an evident, immediate impact on us earthlings. Venusian transits influence our collective approach to love, pleasure, aesthetics and our relationship to earning and spending money.
Shortly after Venus climbs into the lion’s den, the planet will trine Saturn retrograde in Aries.
Leo is easily taken in and led astray by a sweeping spectacle, but Saturn reminds us that consistent commitment can be its own kind of kink.
On the 27th, Venus in Leo opposes Pluto retrograde in Aquarius, and the planet of love gets some shade thrown its way and some frivolous fat cut from its soul.
On the same day, Venus trines Neptune retrograde in Aries, heralding a time to expand our definition of what love can be, adding much-needed kindling of possibility to cooling embers and a compassionate, wide-angle lens to our worldview.
Here, now, we are encouraged to nurture what nourishes.
This transit asks us to connect with the child we were, the skinned-knee kid who made for the sake of making with no thought for acclaim, judgment or ROI.
If something sparks, follow it through, be it ecstatic dance or the trail of a wild-eyed stranger.
The brilliant astrologer Rob Brezny, adapting a message from the Coptic Gospel of Thomas, tells us, “If we don’t give birth to the genius within us, it will undermine us. If we give birth to the genius within us, it will liberate us.”
Ultimately, as Leo is both fertility and creativity, this is the lesson of this Venus cycle: to love others with abandon, but to love ourselves and our own genius with a panting ferocity.
To best make use of the energy of this transit, astrologer Babs Cheung recommends amplifying your aesthetic.
“Venus’s ingress into Leo is a great time for major glow-ups and makeovers, bonus points if it’s hair-related. Your desire to shine will be strong and reinforced by head-turning, double-take compliments from friends and strangers alike. In terms of relationships, it’s a great time to get sappy, schmaltzy, and old school, as Leo is the ruler of the 5th house of romance and joy,” said Cheung.
A word of caution: when Venus is in Leo, we tend to go big, live boldly and blow our proverbial load.
“While it may be tempting to spend all your money on grandiose, beautiful things because life is a reason to celebrate, it’s very easy to go bankrupt during this time, as the desire for luxury can easily translate to overspending,” Cheung told The Post.
She shared that our bank accounts are not the only resource prone to draining during this transit.
“Beware [of] energy vampires, especially those who bring messy and unnecessary drama. Burnout is the last thing we need from our relationships, and ending the summer with your peace and sanity intact is the main goal.”
Here’s to looking good and staying sane.
Venus in a fellow fire sign in your fifth house of pleasure is a welcome igniter of desire, Aries.
Whether playing the field or digging deep with a long-term partner, this is an excellent time to tune in to what turns you on.
Because sexuality and creativity are both born in the sacral center, allow your pursuit of either to stoke the power of the other.
Ruled by Venus, the luminary of love, the planet’s transit through Leo hits your fourth house of home and lineage, the domestic and the ancestral.
Now is an excellent time to make art from old family photos, bake the cookies you craved as a kid or fashion your home into the kind of palace of peace you needed but didn’t get when you were growing up.
Another way to honor the energy of this transit is to entertain in your space. Nothing makes somewhere feel like the only place to be more than a collection of carefully ordained lovers, family and friends strung around the table.
A true home and healing company is the fastest route to rectifying the pains of the past.
Your house, you rule.
You can usually and casually command applause and genuflection with little effort, but now, with Venus shining in your sign — your magnetism is at peak performance.
With Saturn in the mix, however, you might feel called to change outfits or audiences, trading instant gratification for simpler sustenance.
It is not enough to be loved, Leo; you need to hear the echo of your own affection, the conch shell of confidence that comes from speaking true and being truly heard.
Ahoy, space cowboy. Venus in Leo shoots a bedazzled arrow into your seventh house of commitment and consummation.
This transit has the air of whimsy to it, and you may find yourself attracted to partners or projects that defy logic but inspire ardor.
Trust in lust.
