Boston Blue finally explained how Donnie Wahlberg‘s Danny will be making the move from New York — but what does this mean for his future with Maria Baez after their time together on Blue Bloods?
The Friday, October 24, episode of the CBS spinoff showed Danny having a conversation with son Sean (Mika Amonsen) about his plans for the future, saying, “I’ve been thinking about what you said — about finally starting to feel like a Reagan. Being a Reagan means you always have someone in the department who has your back and you don’t. It’s like you said, you are the only Reagan in Boston — but you don’t have to be.”
Danny revealed he already took steps to move to Boston.
“I am trying to say that we haven’t been as close as we should be for the last few years. Maybe we can work on that and I can have your back at the same time,” he continued. “I am saying maybe I can transfer to Boston PD.”
Sean, however, asked whether Danny could leave his life in New York — including girlfriend Baez (Marisa Ramirez).
“Maria and I will figure it out. And the family understands,” Danny noted at the end of the episode. “I did [talk to them] and they agreed with me. So you are kind of stuck with me but only if you want to be.”
Danny’s journey in New York was featured on CBS’ Blue Bloods, which ran from 2010 to 2024. When the audience last saw Danny, he was taking some much-needed advice from his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) about his personal life — including his feelings for professional partner Maria Baez (Ramirez).
“I always told you not to bring the job home,” Henry told Danny in the 2024 series finale, adding that the “problem now is you have no one not to bring it home to.” Henry told Danny to promise he’d “find that someone” after his case.
Danny was then seen asking Baez out on a date, saying, “You wanna get a pizza?”
Boston Blue, which premiered earlier this month, kicked off with Danny visiting Boston after Sean ended up in a coma. Before he traveled to another state, Danny’s life in New York featured a cameo from Ramirez, 48.
“You should always worry about long distance,” Ramirez exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of her Boston Blue cameo about Baez and Danny’s future. “You never know what’s gonna happen. Always worry.”
Ramirez acknowledged that Baez and daughter Elena “could move to Boston no problem” — but should they?
“To me, it’s not that fun to watch such a happy couple. It’s fun when there’s ups and downs and arguments and kind of getting back together,” she explained. “It’s more fun to watch kind of turmoil in relationships, because it makes it that much sweeter when it works out and they get together.”
According to Ramirez, fans can expect “a little bit of push and pull and back and forth until something does happen” to make them find a better solution.
“I would hope she’s gonna be in more than just one scene out of this whole season, right?” she teased. “I just think that you’re honestly just gonna have to watch. But still be worried about the long distance thing working out or not working out.”
Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
