Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola and her fiancé, Justin May, suffered a miscarriage after undergoing in vitro fertilization.
“This has been a very long process, it’s been a lot of shots, it’s been a lot of hormones,” Sammi, 37, said during a confessional on the Thursday, November 21, episode. “Just the thought of even being pregnant was such a magical moment for me, and just to have that taken away — it’s devastating.”
Sammi praised how Justin supported her during the difficult time.
“He’s so positive and uplifting,” she said. “He’s so special to me, and I just am so thankful for him. He’s been by my side through this whole thing. I just love him.”
Sammi suffered the pregnancy loss shortly before Justin proposed after two years of dating.
“I am just like, in awe,” Sammi gushed in a second confessional from Thursday’s episode. “I’ve dreamt of this moment my entire life. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
She added, “Justin coming into my life made my life a million times better. He is just everything I could ever ask for in a man. He’s patient. He’s supportive and I just love and adore him so much.”
Sammi and Justin had gotten engaged in April.
“Life update: Fiancé. The easiest question I’ve ever answered,” Sammi wrote via Instagram, showing off her engagement ring. “Happiest & luckiest girl in the world. I’ll love you forever, and then some. Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Sammi was an OG cast member on MTV’s Jersey Shore but initially opted against appearing on its Family Vacation spinoff. She changed her mind during 2023’s season 6, which served as a reunion for her and the other cast members including ex Ronnie Ortiz-Magro.
“I knew the moment I decided to come back that there will be a possibility that Ron will be here,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in August 2023. “You know, he’s part of the family too. I definitely knew that. It was just like, ‘OK, I can handle it — whatever comes my way.’”
She added, “It’s definitely nerve-wracking … but I deal with it.”
Sammi and Ronnie, now 38, dated on and off from 2009 to 2014, and many of their ups and downs were featured on Jersey Shore. When they reunited on Family Vacation, there was no lingering bad blood.
“I’m good, we can keep it moving. We’re coworkers. You’re just somebody I dated in my 20s. Like, and we can keep it moving at that,” Sammi told Us at the time. “A lot of people are, like, when I tell them my age now, they’re like, ‘Wait, you dated him when you were 22 and you’re 36 now?’ Like, a lot of time has gone [and] I’ve dated other people. I mean, there’s just a lot of life that goes on in between all those years.”
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation airs on MTV Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
