Jessica Simpson announced she and her husband, Eric Johnson, have called it quits after 10 years of marriage.
“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told Us Weekly in a statement on Monday, January 13. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Simpson sparked split rumors in November 2024 while teasing new music. “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she wrote via Instagram. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve 🎶 🎼 🤍🖤.”
Though she did not specify the hardships she went through, fans were quick to theorize that her comments were about her relationship with Johnson. “Is this j simp saying she’s single?” one user commented on the post, while another fan added: “Yep, called this a while ago. We love you. Stay strong.”
Jessica’s sister, Ashlee Simpson, addressed the rumors while walking in Los Angeles with her husband, Evan Ross, that same day. When asked by TMZ whether it was “true” that Jessica and Johnson were calling it quits, she simply told the outlet: “No.”
Johnson added fuel to the fire when he was photographed walking around L.A. sans wedding ring later that month, per pics obtained by People.
Amid the drama, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the now-exes were “living separately.” A second insider added that they were “trying to figure out a separation without disrupting their kids’ lives as much as possible.” (The duo share kids Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.)
A third source noted that Jessica was “heartbroken” by the situation, stating, “[It was] not an easy decision for her.”
Jessica was previously married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006. She was first spotted with Johnson in 2010, the same year he split from his ex-wife, Keri D’Angelo. In November of that year, Us confirmed that Johnson popped the question to Jessica after six months of dating.
Prior to tying the knot in July 2014, the former couple became parents with the birth of Maxwell in May 2012, followed by Ace in June 2013. They completed their family of five with the birth of Birdie in March 2019.
Johnson last appeared on Jessica’s social media in April, as she posted several Instagram pics from the family’s spring break trip to Cabo San Lucas and their Easter celebrations.
“2024 Spring Breakin’ with the fam was EPIC!” she wrote alongside Instagram snaps of their tropical vacation on April 8. “Thank you @tinasimpsonofficial for giving these kiddos memorable moments in Cabo that they will hold close to their precious hearts and cherish for a lifetime!”
