New year, new hair! Jessica Simpson showed off a darker hair color to celebrate her 45th birthday on Thursday, July 10.

The usually-platinum blonde singer had a noticeably smokier shade to her hair in a carousel of photos from birthday celebrations that she belatedly shared on Friday, July 11. In the festive Instagram post, the former Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica star posed in a shiny seethrough dress, arched grey heels and a sparkling silver choker.

“Fancy dive into 45,” Simpson wrote alongside the carousel.

Her sister Ashlee Simpson was among those celebrating the “Leave” musician’s big day, writing: “45 [never] looked better angel queen. Love you so much! This is your year.” Jessica’s mom Tina Simpson joined in by wishing her “sweet girl” a very happy milestone birthday.

“45 looks real good on you! So thankful to be your Mommy 🥳🎉💜. I love you,” Tina replied.

Other famous friends offered birthday wishes, with former Baywatch star Carmen Electra adding: “Happy birthday hottie.” Fellow pop icon Jojo Levesque chimed in: “You look. Unbelievable ! Happy birthday gorgeous woman !!!!”

Simpson previously went for darker hair in May when she made her highly-awaited TV return on the American Idol finale. (Prior to Idol’s season-ending episode, Simpson last performed on TV for the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony in New York City in November 2010.)

In January, Simpson confirmed that she’d separated from husband Eric Johnson after 10 years of marriage. (Simpson and the retired NFL star tied the knot in Montecito, California in July 2014. They share three children: Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 13, Ace Knute, 12, and Birdie Mae, 6. She was previously married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006.)

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told Us Weekly in January. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

She later confessed to fans during a concert in Texas in March that she’d gone through major upheaval while writing her latest EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1.

“I was out in Nashville and I had my heart wide open, I was in a very intuitive state and I had to ask some very personal questions on the home front,” Simpson recalled. “I found out that my world had been turned upside down and that life was very different … I am now a very single lady.”

She went on, “When we open our hearts, sometimes we’re vulnerable and it just gets broken. Maybe sometimes we forget that we’ve been broken for a really long time, but when we meet ourselves, when we write, when we sing [and] when we connect with ourselves, we find all the answers.”
