Jets’ Corey Davis itching for rematch vs. Patriots

Coming out of an early season bye week, Corey Davis described the Jets’ energy and vibe as “way different.”

But the wide receiver also sounded hungry for a rematch against the Patriots on Sunday after they shut him down last month.

“We’re ready. We’re ready,” Davis said Wednesday after practice. “I don’t want to say too much … but we’re ready.”

Davis was held to just two catches (on five targets) for 8 yards in the Jets’ 25-6 loss in Week 2. It was just part of a rough showing for the offense on a day Zach Wilson threw four interceptions.

But the Jets didn’t have to wait long to get another shot at Bill Belichick and Co.

“It’s definitely another opportunity to show what we’ve been doing and how far we’ve come since the last time we played them,” said Davis, who leads the team with 20 catches for 302 yards and three touchdowns. “I think we’re a lot better than what we displayed last time we played these guys.”

Before their first matchup, Jets coach Robert Saleh said it was “an honor to share the same field” as Belichick.

On Wednesday, though, he downplayed the idea of going up against the future Hall of Famer.

“It’s about the players,” Saleh said. “I believe there’s internally motivated people and there’s externally motivated people. No disrespect to Bill, who’s one of the greatest ever, [but] he’s an external motivation that doesn’t matter. It’s about internally being ready and prepared to put your best foot forward for the people who are counting on you.”

Safety Marcus Maye returned to practice Wednesday (as a limited participant) for the first time since injuring his ankle in Week 3 vs. the Broncos.

Tight end Tyler Kroft missed practice because of a back injury that forced him to be inactive against the Falcons in London.

“I give him credit,” Saleh said. “It is not easy what he’s going through.”

The Jets have gotten very little production from their tight ends this season, with Kroft recording six catches for 46 yards and Ryan Griffin posting eight catches for 49 yards.

Safety Adrian Colbert (concussion), DL Nathan Shepherd (knee) and WR Jeff Smith (concussion) all practiced fully.
