Johnny Gaudreau’s two children honored their late father with their 2024 Halloween costume choice.
“Costumes Daddy wanted ❤️❤️,” Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, wrote via her Instagram Story on Friday, November 1, alongside a video of daughter Noa, 2, and son Johnny Jr., 8 months, dressed up as Toy Story characters for the holiday. Meredith’s post also featured the song “You Got a Friend in Me” which was featured in the first Pixar film.
Noa went as the beloved cowgirl Jessie. She rocked a dress that featured a cow print skirt and a white and yellow western blouse. She donned a bright red cowboy hat to complete the look.
“Love my girl so much. So proud of her,” Meredith wrote in a subsequent story set to the song “Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl.”
Johnny Jr. opted for Buzz Lightyear and had a spot-on onesie matching the space ranger’s style. Noa and Johnny Jr. spent Halloween trick-or-treating with their cousins.
Halloween looked different for the Gaudreaus this year as they continue to mourn Johnny. Us Weekly confirmed in August that Johnny and his younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were struck by a vehicle and killed while they were riding bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The driver of the vehicle, Sean M. Higgins, was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. He is suspected of being drunk at the time of the incident.
The brothers were in town to celebrate their sister Katie Gaudreau’s wedding. Katie’s nuptials were postponed following the tragedy. Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29. (Matthew is survived by wife Madeline Gaudreau who is currently pregnant with their first child, due in December.)
Since Johnny’s passing, Meredith, who announced she is expecting baby No. 3, has been candid about her grief. Days before Halloween, Meredith penned an emotional note in honor of her husband after his team the Columbus Blue Jackets hosted an emotional dedication for him earlier that month.
“John, we love you so much,” Meredith wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, October 29. “I grow more and more proud of you every single day, (I have since the day I met you) and it continues even though you are in heaven. Thank you for giving me our hockey family, our children and such a beautiful life as your wife.”
Meredith shared a series of snaps of her and her children at the event where the little ones donned their dad’s jersey.
“You are and will always be my everything. I love you so much,” she continued. “I love you more every day. I always told you there are no words to describe my love for you. There just aren’t. ‘You know how much I love you, right?’ 🤍.”
