Kate Gosselin is embracing life beyond reality TV — revealing that she’s now working long shifts in the medical field to support herself and her family years after her rise to fame.
“It was another 12-hour day, and my patient and I did a bunch of things,” Kate, 50, shared in a new TikTok clip posted on Monday, August 11, just one month after joining the social media platform. “My patient wants to spend time outside, and I, of course, did all of the medical care as well, feeding, bathing and all the things.”
“I work again tomorrow morning, so I have my dishes loaded into the dishwasher, and will get my dishwasher running, so I can go to bed and get up early and do it all over again,” she explained.
Kate moved to Troutman, North Carolina, from Pennsylvania and renewed her nursing license again earlier this year. The TLC alum noted that she is often asked about what she wears while on the clock as a pediatric home health care nurse in N.C., revealing she opts for a scrub T-shirt and pants with cargo pockets.
In the comments section, one fan inquired why she still has to work such long shifts to make ends meet, to which Kate candidly replied, “Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS.”
“Sickening but I was drug [sic] into court constantly and that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren’t for lawyers :(. It’s okay. I’m helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping,” she continued.

In another one of her responses, Kate also spilled that “reality TV doesn’t pay as well as it should when you have to provide for 8 kids on your own.”
Kate notably became a household name while starring on Jon & Kate Plus 8 from 2007 to 2009 with her and ex-husband Jon Gosselin, their twins, Mady and Cara, now 24, and 21-year-old sextuplets Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel, Aaden and Collin.
During her reality TV run, she also appeared in her own spinoff, Kate Plus 8, and a show about her love life, Kate Plus Date, which aired for one season in 2019.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Kate and Jon, 48, were embroiled in a high-profile custody battle after they divorced in 2009.
Following their split, Kate was awarded legal custody of all eight children, while both parents were granted shared physical custody. However, in 2018, Hannah began living with her father full-time, and Collin later joined them.
Collin made headlines just days ago for his sentimental post about his estranged siblings.
“Forced apart, pitted against each other,” he wrote alongside a photo of his brood shared on August 8. “All the fame and money in the world, but what about kids being kids?”
“I will always love them more than anything,” Collin wrote, revealing his hopes to reunite and rebuild their bond. “The tears I shed behind closed doors, thinking about the memories we could’ve shared. I love you guys.”
