Kevin Federline is revealing what his future in show business could have looked like if he just said “yes.”

“Everything from Big Brother to Wife Swap landed on my desk,” the former backup dancer, 47, alleged in his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, out on Tuesday, October 21, claiming that “reality TV offers flooded in” after he appeared on Celebrity Fit Club in 2010.

“They even floated my name as a potential host for Dancing with the Stars when the show first started, but I turned it down,” he continued.

Federline went on to admit that he “couldn’t see the appeal” in the reality dance competition, so he “couldn’t have guessed how massive” it would become.

“In hindsight, I missed an opportunity there, but I’ve never been one to chase fame for fame’s sake,” he added.

Dancing With the Stars has attracted some of the biggest names in show business and beyond — but some celebrities wouldn’t consider stepping foot into the ballroom. During a September 2025 episode of the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast, Brandi Cyrus revealed that mom Tish Cyrus is “terrified” of lacing up her dancing shoes due to […]

Federline also claimed he received multiple opportunities for a tell-all interview with “massive amounts of money” as payout. He further claimed he turned the offers down in order to protect the people closest to him, including his ex-wife, Britney Spears.

“We’re talking six-figure deals that I was turning down for the sake of Britney and my family,” he claimed, noting that doing reality TV “wasn’t all bad” instead.

“It gave me a chance to prioritize my health, and the paycheck was hard to argue with. But it also opened my eyes to how manipulative the medium could be,” he claimed in the book. “The manufactured drama, the constant pressure to ‘turn it on’ for the cameras, it just wasn’t me. The experience left me wary of the industry just when reality TV was dominating pop culture.”

Aside from his stint on Celebrity Fit Club, Federline also appeared on the short-lived reality weight loss series Excess Baggage in 2012.

The former dancer has been making headlines for the various claims he makes against his ex-wife in the new book. Federline told Us Weekly exclusively why now was the perfect time for him to share his story.

“I’ve sat back and watched people tell my story through a different lens for 20 years,” he explained. “I focused on my family, focused on my kids, focused on making sure that we were doing right by them — and everybody involved, really.”

Kevin Federline decided to write his debut memoir, You Thought You Knew, to tell his story on his terms. “I’ve sat back and watched people tell my story through a different lens for 20 years,” Federline, 47, told Us Weekly exclusively ahead of the book’s Tuesday, October 21, release date. “I focused on my family, […]

Federline was married to Spears, 43, from 2004 to 2007. They share sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.

“I wanted my kids to be old enough to understand it was time for me to tell my story, time for me to finally come forward and put my life in perspective because I don’t want them to have to do it,” he added. “I felt like waiting was great. It gave me a chance to reflect. It gave me a chance to get a well-rounded perspective of everything and allowed my kids to be old enough to get behind it and give me the OK.”

Federline made it clear to Us that “finger-pointing has been going on for so long” when it comes to Spears’ life in the public eye. But he’s “never, ever been against her,” and instead insisted he only wants what’s best for his ex and their kids.

“In this book, that comes through very clear,” he continued. “On the outside perspective of that with everybody else that’s been involved, I think everybody wants the same things.”

You Thought You Knew is available on Tuesday, October 21, via Listenin, an audio-first platform.
