Killer’s stupid mistake leads to his arrest in the fatal shooting of his lawyer brother: cops

A man suffering from mental illness was arrested for allegedly gunning down his lawyer sibling — when he brazenly returned to the crime scene with their grief-stricken parents, cops said.

Christopher Eaves, 49, is accused of opening fire on his 51-year-old brother, James “Artie” Eaves, in the driveway of the victim’s Phoenix home before fleeing and leaving him for dead last Friday, True Crime Arizona reported.

The victim, who is a well-known defense attorney in the region, was found lying face-down in a pool of his blood after a witness reported seeing a white BMW leaving the scene just moments after the gunshots rang out.

The witness, who described the driver as “being either bald or short hair male,” managed to scribble down the license plate — which police said they quickly tied to the younger brother.

Eaves returned to his parents’ home where he lives in the aftermath where they told him something bad had happened at Artie’s home, the police report said.

He told his parents he wanted to come with them to see what had happened, according to cops.

Footage from the local TV station captured Eaves being cuffed and hauled away when he returned to the scene with his parents.

Police said they later found guns in Eaves’ car, as well as a firearm on his bedside table, that matched the shell casings at the scene.

Eaves’ parents later informed cops that the suspected killer struggled with mental illness.

He was hospitalized two years ago after being found unconscious with methamphetamine and fentanyl in his system, police said.

Eaves was hit with first-degree murder and burglary charges. He’s being held on a $1.5 million cash bond.
