The Pitt is coming back for another season — but some of the characters may look a bit different after offscreen exits.
The hit HBO Max series premiered in January 2025 with many excited to see Noah Wyle play a doctor again after his 15-year stint on ER. It didn’t take long for Us to fall in love with the entire cast including Dr. Robby (Wyle), Dr. Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).
By the time season 2 started filming, the show shook things up with some new faces — and a major departure from Ifeachor. Us Weekly confirmed in July 2025 that it was always the plan for Ifeachor’s character — who was a fourth-year resident in the first season — to go on and be a doctor in future installments of the show.
“I loved playing Dr. Heather Collins. I put so much into her and I gave so much of myself to that and I really left it all on the field,” Ifeachor exclusively told Us Weekly in September 2025 before joking, “I left it all in the bathroom that day. So, I really loved that character and as a person. I just keep walking forward.”

Following a tough first season, Robby is back for his last shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center before taking a three-month sabbatical.
Patrick Ball
Ball’s Langdon stepped away from the ER after it was revealed in season 1 that he had substance abuse issues. He is back in season 2 for the first time after entering rehab and working on his mental health.
Katherine LaNasa
Despite Dana (LaNasa) hinting that she was down as a charge nurse, she is back and better than ever.
Supriya Ganesh
Ganesh’s Mohan is back with more confidence as a fourth-year medical resident.
Fiona Dourif
McKay is in season 2 — but her ankle monitor isn’t.
Taylor Dearden
The resident is now in her third year but season 2 starts off on a complicated note for Mel, who is awaiting a deposition following a lawsuit from a patient.
Isa Briones
If there’s one thing The Pitt viewers can count on it’s Santos (Briones) continuing to find success now as a second-year at the ER.
Gerran Howell
Santos’ now-roommate Whitaker a.k.a Huckleberry is officially making the move from student doctor to ER doctor.
Shabana Azeez
When season 2 picks back up, Javadi is a fourth-year who is considering her future in medicine — and is moonlighting as an internet personality.
Sepideh Moafi
With Robby planning a leave of absence, Moafi’s character Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi is introduced as a “new attending physician at the Pitt who previously worked at a VA hospital.”
Shawn Hatosy
It wouldn’t be The Pitt without Abbot showing up and saving the day in some capacity despite working the night shift.
