Megyn Kelly is urging Americans to have patience with President Trump as backlash over his far-reaching “reciprocal” tariffs continues to grow.

“He’s asking everybody to be a little patient. I think given the guy’s success in the first term, economically, we should give it to him,” Kelly told the Daily Mail.

“He’s earned the right to our patience, and I’m prepared to provide it,” the host of SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” declared.

Trump’s sweeping tariffs on nearly all imports went into effect over the weekend, and even steeper levies began Wednesday, hitting US allies and adversaries alike, with China being hit with 104% levy and the European Union 20%.

Even after Trump’s so-called “Liberation Day” on April 2 — during which he vowed to get back at countries that had “ripped off” America for years — Kelly insists there are “glimmers of hope” for the controversial policy.

One positive outcome of the tariffs is that the policy prompted Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to try “to crack down on the number one killer of young people in America,” Kelly said, referring to fentanyl.

Kelly also noted that the backlash and negative reaction to the tariffs didn’t come as a complete surprise to her.

“It’s almost a good sign, in a way, that every rich person I know is upset,” she said. “If you are somebody who’s well off, perhaps your immediate circles in the Hamptons aren’t exactly the proper focus group for whether these things are a good idea.”

While US stock markets continued to drop this week as a result of Trump’s tariffs, Kelly conceded that Trump likely wouldn’t let the situation drag on if the US stock market continues to suffer.

“Trump, in his soul, is a rich guy with rich friends who loves rich people and successful American stories. So the last thing he wants is to lose his entire base of rich friends because he’s devastated their fortunes with this move,” she reasoned.

Kelly noted the president would likely declare the tariffs a success regardless of how the ongoing war unfolds — even if it compromises the success of the Republican Party in the long run.

“I do think to judge whether the tariffs have been a success or a failure, we will need to look beyond Trump,” Kelly said. “I think Trump will declare them a success no matter what, and we’ll need to have objective economic indicators.”

She added: “I don’t feel like he’ll be as invested in making sure Republicans keep the White House when he leaves as your average politician might be.”

“Trump was elected in large part because he has not forgotten about the forgotten man, and he ran the first time and second time around on trying to bring manufacturing back to America and cracking down on China.”

Kelly concluded by saying she thinks the commander-in-chief will do “what he thinks is right and what he promised he would do,” noting that sentiment has been a “lifelong core principle of his.”
