While a wedding should be a joyous occasion, marriage ceremonies are often fraught with headaches ranging from drunken crashers to monsters-in-law and cold feet at the altar.

Thankfully, online wedding planners have provided some ingenious — albeit out-of-the-box — hacks to ensure that the big day goes off without, er, a hitch.

TikTok life coach and self-proclaimed “CEO of unhinged hacks Unseen & Believed had prompted the impromptu suggestions after asking for nuptial advice in a TikTok video with 11.8 million views.

“Provide pictures of the people you think the bartender should water down their drinks for,” suggested one, referencing the scourge of inebriated nuptial guests. sonyachny – stock.adobe.com

“Please give me your most unhinged wedding hacks,” implored the content creator. “I don’t mean, ‘Oh, keep a Tide pen with you!’ I mean something you did that was truly unhinged, but you don’t regret at all.”

Social media marriage refs were more than happy to oblige, proposing hacks, stunts and demands that make “American Wedding” look like a Sunday school picnic.

Another wrote, “Not mine but my sister’s wedding – she had an expensive liquor bottle aside for just her and the groom to do shots with… it was water.”

“Not unhinged, but all of my flowers (bouquet etc) I took to the cemetery the next day..for friends & family who couldn’t make it,” said a third.

Apparently, nothing improves the festivities like making it rain on your wedding day.

“My dad carried $200 in ones,” recalled one commenter. “During the reception every time someone did something he liked (a backflip, be silly, twerk, the worm) he gave them $1. It kept the party going bc everyone wanted $$.”

Many hacks had to do with wrangling unruly and irritating guests with one knot-tying authority writing, “I’m creating a fake wedding planner email so I can respond to questions as nasty as I want without needing to save face.”

One commenter said she worked as a wedding photographer for a bride who had a dress code and told her that if guests are not following it, “don’t waste your time photographing them.” Wedding photography – stock.adobe.com

“Have a DWA (designated wedding a–hole) someone not a part of the wedding party but you are still super close with,” suggested another. “They are the person that handles anyone who is disrespectful on your day.”

Speaking of taking out the trash, another nuptial whiz advised, “hire a cleaning lady to clean your house while you’re at the wedding. It was the nicest surprise ever when me and my husband went home to a super clean house after all the wedding chaos the week before.”

One viewer claimed they dealt with the omnipresent problem of tardy guests by having “two sets of invitations.”

“The people who like to show up to stuff fashionably late got a ceremony time that started 30 minutes before the actual start time,” they said.

Some wife-hackers devised ingenious methods for fashion policing slovenly guests on their special day.

What do you do in the rare event that the wife-to-be decides to say “I don’t?” Evacuate them like a hostage rescue, according to some backseat planners.

“Me and the other bridesmaid had an escape route planned for the bride if she changed her mind,” recalled one bride-or-die gal. “The bride didn’t know.”

This measure might seem like overkill, but a 2024 survey found that one in five recently married Americans admit they almost didn’t show up to the altar on their wedding day due to issues ranging from scheduling to total cost.
