Naomi Watts and ex Liev Schreiber reunited to celebrate son Sasha’s prom night.
Watts, 56, took to Instagram on Monday, May 26, and shared a snap of herself smiling with Schreiber, 57, and 17-year-old Sasha, who wore a black suit.
“So proud of you,” the star of Feud: Capote vs. the Swans wrote in her post, tagging Sasha.
Watts posted other shots of Sasha and his classmates all dressed up for their big night.
Watts and Schreiber dated for more than a decade from 2005 to 2016. In addition to Sasha, the twosome also share 16-year-old daughter Kai. (Schreiber has since moved on with Taylor Neisen, whom he married in 2023, while Watts tied the knot with Billy Crudup that year.)
“Over the past few months, we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship,” they told Us Weekly in a joint statement at the time of their split.
Since then, the pair have remained committed to coparenting their children.
“It’s always hard, you know? You build a life with someone and things change. And I think the way that we’ve looked at it is that we’ll always be partners and that’s what kind of keeps us together and keeps us amicable,” Schreiber said on Sunday Today With Willie Geist in 2018. “But I think we’re more than that, I think we also genuinely really care about each other.”
Schreiber noted at the time: “It’s important to support each other, you know? It’s really important. I was making some jokes this morning at breakfast about mommy with the [kids], and their eyes light up when I talk about her. You can see how important it is to them that their parents care about each other and that no matter what happens, you continue to try and do that.”
Earlier this year, Watts and Schreiber attended the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards alongside Sasha. Watts walked the red carpet with her son, and later, Sasha sat next to his dad — a nominee for his role in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple — when he won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.
“Thank you to my beautiful wife, Taylor [Neisen], and my son, Sasha, for convincing me to come,” Schreiber joked in his acceptance speech, which 32-year-old Neisen filmed via her smartphone. “I told them that there’s no way on God’s Earth in that company that I would win this award.”
Watts, for her part, was up for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for her performance in Feud. When Schreiber and Neisen welcomed daughter Hazel in September 2023, Watts shared in the couple’s joy.
“We love baby Hazel!! 🙌🙌🙌,” Watts gushed via her Instagram Story at the time.
Earlier this month, Schreiber opened up about raising Kai, who is trans.
“Kai was always who Kai is,” Liev shared in an interview with Variety. “But I suppose the most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns. To be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.”
He added: “Kai is such a fighter. It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me,’ and, ‘F*** you. F*** off.’”
